I'm interested in getting one and wanted some input from those who do. I'm looking for something cheap (below $100) and the ability to:

- Hardwire it into the car so that it'll only turn on when the car is running.
- Automatically delete old videos when the memory card is full to make room for new one.
- 720p or higher in resolution.
- Something that can automatically record when it sense the car is moving and automatically stop record when you parked the car.

Can you give me some pointer if you have one? which model to avoid and which model to get?

Which one do you have Jimzz? Also, do you have it setup for rear-view as well?

I have the R280
http://dashcamtalk.com/r280/

Its a 1080 cam with swivel lens. Its a older one so I would not buy it now, the G1W is better from what I have read/seen.

Mine only points forward, so no rear view recording. But I have not seen the real need for dual unless its a company car/truck type thing. i.e. keeping a eye on the driver not other drivers.

Jimzz, does it automatically record when you drive the car and stop when you park the car? Or do I have to hit the record/stop manually everytime I drive?

If your cigarette outlet is powered by the key and turns off when you remove then yes it should be automatic.

My Ranger, for some dumb reason, is hot all the time even without the key. So I have to turn mine on/off manually.
I did put it in my old car and it came of right after I started the car and turned off after the battery ran out of juice. The battery is very short but long enough to save the current file. So if you lose power after an accident it’s enough to protect you.

Make sure to get at least a class6 memory card. I use a class 10 32gb card myself. 16gb should be fine as well.

Just pointing out, this is the proper way, and the only way it should be. It leaves me fuming about cars (since most are wired that way compared to trucks) that I want to leave something to charge, but I can't, because the key needs to be on for it to do so. Not to mention when I really need a camera to run is when some dip backs into my car in a parking lot and does a hit and run.

Oh I agree as many if not most have more than 1 outlet today. In my case BOTH are hot all the time.

If it was 1 on all the time and 1 ignition then that be perfect.

I have one but cost about $200. Comes with a program that shows GPS data as well as speed. Pretty discrete. You can find a lot cheaper.

Oh well that I agree with. Sorry if I jumped to conclusions there.

I use a free app on my Galaxy S4 and a windshield mount. I do have to put it in the mount and start recording, but that seems pretty minor to me.

The BlackVue ones are outside of your budget, but have the features you are looking for & are very popular:

I have the DVR-207. It's alright, no frills. Takes okay video. Seems there are better ones out there now in its price range since I bought it last spring.
