Anyone have a D50 and use larger than 2 GB SD cards?

pontifex

Officially, I'm pretty sure the D50 only supports up to 2 GB SD cards. has anyone tried a larger card and had it work?

ive read that some people are able to get their 4GB cards working...all depends on the card brand and a bit of luck.

kinda glad my D80 is SDHC so my 8GB ocz sd card works just fine.

I remember this thread from forever ago, but I ran across this info:

If you format a 4 GB SDHC card in a computer (and not from the Nikon D50), you can use it with the D50.

I saw that from FW.

Well it's ordered. I'll report back on whether it works or not. I have a Nikon D50, if the implication isn't enough.

And the answer is no. The Sandisk Extreme III 4 GB doesn't work. At least not on my D50. It came pre-formatted (is that normal?) and when I put it into the D50 the D50 couldn't read it. I tried formatting it again on my PC and the D50 still wouldn't detect it. Anybody have any other suggestions before I hand the card off to my friend?

Hey, not to bust in on your thread too much here, but I just ordered a Nikon D50 and was wondering about memory for it. I can see that apparently my limit is 2GB cards. What brands and speeds have you used in this camera and do you have any recommendations?

Thanks

I use a SanDisk 2GB UltraII in mine. I don't think that the D50 can really take advantage of faster cards. But, after researching for 10 seconds on Amazon, the SanDisk ExtremeIII 2GB SD card is only $3 more: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-...&qid=1201718943&sr=8-4

At 6-megapixels, you can store approximately 600 "fine" JPEG on a 2GB card; that's probably the limit of your battery on a single charge.

If you shoot "normal" JPEG, double that number; 1200 shots on a single 2GB card. "Basic" JPEG is over 2000 shots on a single 2GB card.

And if you shoot RAW, it's somewhere around 350 shots on a single 2GB card.

With SD cards dirt cheap, and their size being equal to that of a postage stamp, it isn't much of a hassle to carry an extra 2GB card with you.

Although personally, I would never shoot more than 300 photos without backing them up to my PC (unless I had no access to a PC, of course).

That happens to me. I go on business trips that I try to extend as mini-vacations when possible (and try to take pictures then) so I'm away from my PC. I usually have my laptop but not always, and I'm afraid of losing it or something happening to it in transit.

As a note on this... checkout dealcatcher... there's a link to a kingston 2GB SD card that's $13 w/ free shipping... I just ordered one of them. I used the googlecheckout thing and got it for $3 shipped!
