go out, buy the book, read it, pass hs

most of us have done it already.

there are very few shortcuts in life, and they don't start at ATOT

Uh... yeah... I'm not in HS, and I don't have to read it for a class... I'm just curious to read it... and was wondering about doing this since y'know, any time you can save money is good... I'm not looking for this as a right of passage...

Yes.

And don't be so cheap. Dover Publishing has printings of Jane Eyre for like $1.50 or $2.
Charlotte Bronte's finest work however remains with Villette. Nevertheless don't be afraid to read Bronte.

Jane Eyre seriously sucked. It was written by a no-talent ass clown. It was almost as bad as The Great Gatsby.

If you want a good svowvoo, read The Three Musketeers, To Kill a Mockingbird, or a newspaper.

The Brontes happened to be very influential and significant writers during the Victorian era. Just because you don't read English literature or are terribly uninterested in anything before the 1900's don't disrepect the novelists.

While I had my suspicions of OP's desire to have ATOT write a report for him, I don't see what cheapness has to do with it. Project Gutenberg exists so that works in the public domain can be freely accessed by the public... why would I pay for anything besides a collection-quality hardcover? If I want just the text, it's not even worth spending the paperback money on, when I have everything I need to access it legally and free of charge.

My $0.02

I almost read that in middle school, but I read some cliffs instead. The parts that I did read were absolutely horrible, and the cliffs weren't much better. I hated that book

Point in hand. It is somewhat involved in one of my college classes but it is not required, I just browsed through a few parts and wanted to get a feel of it.

It's not a matter of cheapness. If someone goes to the library, are they cheap? No. They just don't want to spend money on something that they won't ever want to deal with again when they're done.

I didn't know that verifying if this is the actual things means I AM TEH CHEAP ASS. Christ, people on ATOT just look for any random reason to argue or "pwn" someone.

The Three Musketeers wasn't written in English. So technically it doesn't belong in a discussion of English Literature.

The worst disrespect of Authors is to not read them. Reading a book and disliking it does not count as disrespect. At least he's got an opinion.

I loved Jane Eyre - but I'd never heard of Villette. I'll look for it. Any other recommendations in that genre?

Thanks!!

my measuring stick for if someone knows what they're talking about or not with regard to literature is if they bash The Great (JL)Gatsby. You don't have to LIKE it, but to say that it sucks, or that Jane Eyre was written by a no-talent ass clown pretty much disqualifies you from ever opening your mouth again with regard to any piece of American, or English literature ever again. To anyone. Please set your computer on fire and go outside....and then set yourself on fire too.
