Anyone have a Cooler Master Cosmos and can comment on HD Temps?

Really want the case but the lack of HD cooling concerns me. I'm sure when I buy a new version will be announced but I don't think I want to wait till there is a new one.

Anyway, the only real concern I have is the hd cooling. I'll probably put my archive drive in internal enclosure to give that proper cooling but wondering if someone can still comment on the temps

Assumption is that I didn't? I did a quick search. I'm not looking for people that point to comments in reviews. I'm looking for user comments

I just put one together using this case. I've read all the messageboards I could find on topics mentioning the Cosmos, so I went in knowing about the cooling situation.

I have 4 drives setup. 2 are the first generation 30gig+ raptors and the other two are a WD and Maxtor. I installed them in the 4 corners of the drive cabinets with the raptors in the upper section, and I have an 80mm fan blowing into the cabinet from the top. Seems to cool them enough. I don't have a thermometer to check other than putting my finger in there. I'd really like to get one of those laser thermometers over at frigid north but hehehe, the boss hasn't gone for that idea yet. I had the fan blowing out but it wasn't drawing enough air, probably due to not having a good seal around the fan.

I'm planning to buy a 120mm fan and swapping out the lower fan cage to the drive bay, and screwing in the replacement at the bottom. From my reading, that seems to be what everyone has been doing.

I love the case btw....however, it's a huge case and weighs a ton. From what i read, they are planning to build the case in an all-aluminum version in the next few months.

There are some tips in the FAQ on the CM site. You can buy an extra fan holder to put at the top of the HDD stack.

Thanks for the comments. I'm that much closer to buying one 🙂 I did want to hold out for the rumored aluminum version but not sure if I can wait into next year either

The size of the case is also of some concern. I won't have problems fitting it in my room now but I'm moving to a new place next year - hopefully the size will still be a non issue

Yeah, I saw that but don't like the fact that I lose space for 2 drives in the process. Obviously wasn't meant to be set up that way

well it was meant to be set up that way because the right brackets are there. The optional hd fan mount isn't included and I still haven't been able to find it for sale anywhere.

I also can only give you a subjective "touch with the finger test" and it wasn't burning hot. I have 2 old ide 200gb WD's and a 500 gb Maxtor Maxline. THe maxline runs pretty hot typically but it was doing decently. I still don't know if i trust the cooling system but somebody on this board showed me a report which found hard drives don't fail due to extra heat until they go past a certain threshold of I believe 113 (Fahrenheit)

Aren't then now either including or shipping that mount?

I tried this past week, contacting most Cooler Master resellers trying to buy the optional HD fan mount, (which happens to be exactly the same one used for intake in the bottom of the case). The answers I got ranged from those having no idea what I was talking aout, to others who said Cooler Master hasn't brought them into North America, while still others said to contact Cooler Master, who by the way are not noted for quick response time.
