Anyone have a car shipped?

All my vehicles that have been shipped have been coordinated by the HR group of my employer.

However, if you do not want to call around for shippers; call a couple of national moving lines and ask for recommendations.

Or pay attention on the road for vehicles being transported and call the transport company listed on the cab.

Note, if you use the internet, you will calls/emails from multiple shipping agents; prices can vary up to $500 and you will get contacts for the next 3-6 months.

I shipped 2 cars cross country on my own dime. I first started with some website I found using google. It was basically a job board with people competing with each other. I'd get a new e-mail from the board system every 15 minutes as drivers were outbidding each other by $2.

It was my job to pick the right driver, based on price, insurance, reviews, etc. I got scared and asked some RL friends. I ended up getting a referral to a transportation broker. It ended up being about the same, but I felt a lot more comfortable having someone with experience pick for me. I guess it actually cost me more money because I had to pay a (?$50?) broker fee. But I was happy to do so because my friend had shipped his car back and forth across country using the broker both times, and no problems with the car.

my friend has shipped his car twice, from Cali to Pitt and then back. he used passport lines, enclosed transport. it was excellent service, no issues at all. those guys know what they're doing. the car was an m5.

also highly recommended on nsxprime for those shipping NSXs bought from out of state.

A good source to look at is transportreviews.com. I never used passort transport before but have had a good experience with autoline transport.

They shipped my car from texas to california for $599 last summer.

Looking for experience with any particular company. The thought makes me nervous.

Check Google. That's what I did. Start browsing the companies and look for each company's reviews. I chose Montway - montway.com - for my move and cuz there are some good reviews on transportreviews.com and some other sites. Had my car picked up within 2 days after I book the order and got it delivered from NJ to FL within 3 days. Great customer service, always pick up the phone, when I called. Even evenings they got live chat support so you could ask questions and check on status. The driver was nice, gave enough notice so everything went smoothly. Will use them in Spring again to get my 75 MGB back to NJ.

We have shipped cars (2005 accord, 1995 integra, 2000 elantra) CA to MD about six times in the last 8 years (military...). The best company to arrange this with is Montway auto transport. They subcontract to a number of actual transporters but bear most of the accountability and insurance if anything goes south. They also have awesome customer service in our experience.
I've tried to deal directly with transporters but their prices are never better than Montway quotes. You deposit like 150 when you reserve, then you pay the rest when your car arrives at destination. On average such a trip has been about $950 total. The worse thing I have ever had happen is my elantra's battery died and autozone replaced free of charge. Also most shipping is open transport btw.

This.

I got a great price moving my vehicle last year from MN to NC. The earlier you can schedule, and the wider the window, the cheaper it will be. Pay a little more to get a good spot on the truck to protect from rock chips too. 🙂
