well i think i'm going to get one of these cameras. i was looking at the A95 and possibly the SD300, but I think i'm going to go with one of these.

the SD300 from some reviews i read actually has virtually an identical picture quality to the SD200, and actually some reviews said the pic of the 200 was better (kind of hard to believe). also the A95 seems to be a good camera, but one major thing I do not like about it is that it takes 4AA batteries. that really bothers me for some reason beause I don't want to have to get 4AA betteries every time it died. my old 3.2MP sony that broke used 2 batteries, but they seemed to run out quickly (i always use the LCD to take pics btw). However, the A95 can be found for about the same price as the SD200, so i'm not sure exactly what i should do ...

i really like the sleekness of the SD200 and from reviews the pics seem pretty good. i am one who knows very little about all the features of a camera and honestly probably won't change many of the settings on the camera (other than preset 'types'). however the A95 also seems to be a little bit better than the SD200 in some areas as well.

just me not knowing much about photography and honestly not caring much about all these features because I don't know what they are for, i'm not too sure what to do. it all comes down to what takes the best picture to me.

so what i was wondering is do any of you with either of these 3 cameras have any pics posted on the web I could see as example pics? i know you can get some from review websites, but i want to get pics from an actual user of the camera whom is like me, not looking at every detail of the pic. just pics of a night out at a club or of the beach, that sort of stuff.

so if you have some pics taken with any of these 3 cameras please link! thanks!

I have an A80 (similar to A95) and I actually like the fact that it uses AA batteries. Just get a good set or 2 of rechargables and off you go. And if you're in a pinch, it's easy to find AA at a local store.... But if you're looking for something small.. don't get an A series camera...

its not the batteries thats an issue, its that you need 4 of them. 2 is okay, but 4 seems like too much IMO.

The new generation of A series (510, 520, etc) are smaller than before. They aren't as small as the S series but you can get a good idea of actually how small they are when you take a look at the some of the pics in the review linked above.

I need to hurry up and save up for a new A510 to replace my A70 that was broken. Got a baby on the way and my wife's Sony DSC-P10 drives me up the wall despite it's 5 megapixel size. The time between shots takes too long and the picture quality isn't as good as the A70 I had.

I bought an SD300 and here is why - the size. After talking to my cousin he said - I would never buy a non-pocket size digital camera unless it were my second camera. He said that he takes his camera everywhere with him and so takes 10X's the amount of pictures of his little boy and nature and everything. After 3 months I'd have to agree that I love the small size and how I can fit this guy into my pocket and go anywhere with it. So, which is more important to you - taking a LOT of GOOD picutres of events in your life or taking a FEW GREAT pictures? If you're not a big photography guy the pictures will both be great...

you have any pics taken from your SD300 online anywhere? i was possibly considering the sd300 as well, and hear the pics are pretty close to the sd200 as far as quality.

could you post some if you have some? thanks!

I have an sd200.. but not too many online shots. there may be something in my gallery, but I don't know for sure, and they're resized. All I can say is, go for it... I don't think you'll get any real benefit from spending the money on the sd300. Quality probably isn't that much different. Some may say the sd300 is "worse" because it packs more pixels in a small sensor... but I wouldn't say it's anything significant.

I opted for the sd200 out of cost... but I like the sd300 design better :) And yes, I am more likely to take this camera w/ me than the A series... hell, more likely than the S400 I had before.

s500 owner here. I love it. :) If you already have a bunch of SD cards it wouldn't be a good option.

very happy with my sd200; I have some decent pictures I've taken with it. I need a pichost, though, as I'm close to bandwidth limits on my current one.

those of you with the sd200 and sd300... do you notice that the corners get soft and a purple outline around some objects (supposed to be due to the lens on the SD cameras). I want to replace my coolpix 995 with something portable but i don't want to go down in quality. considering the sd300 is ~250$ right now... it's very tempting!

The corners do get a little soft, mostly noticeable when you're taking landscape pictures. The samples I've put up are unretouched; only you can decide whether or not the softening is an issue. The chromatic aberration (fringing?) and softening are characteristic of subcompact cameras. For me, the portability of the camera (literally, it's the size of a deck of cards) greatly outweighed those factors.

Pictures (56kers beware; 1600x1200 pics):

Downtown Vancouver, shot from hotel room
Shooting from inside the plane on the way home
Port at Mazatlan (I think) while on a cruise
Top of slopes, Northstar at Tahoe
Bottom of several runs, same place as above
Playing with macro

Yes, softening is visible, but being a noobie photographer, I was pretty happy with the way most of the pics have turned out.

As a side note, the movie mode with this camera is fantastic. Image and sound quality are impressive (not only for a camera of this size), and 640x480 at 30fps shooting is limited only by the size of your media.

Hope you enjoy :)

edit: btw, sc4, your car is pimp. Thumbs up.

wow dude, thanks a lot for the pics :)

however, after doing more research tonight, i'm pretty sure i'm going with the A510. I overall just think the picture looks better. I was comparing photos on that steves review site posted above, and i just honestly thought the picture looked better.

the movie mode i don't really care about, since i have a mini-dv camera I am going to bring. and after looking at the actual size of the camera next to a CD on that review site, i also think the A510 is small enough that I can fit it in my pocket with no problem.

thanks though for the pics!

I'm really considering getting the SD200 also. The best price i've seen so far is about $265 shipped from Dell. Does anyone know of any hot deals for this camera right now? Thanks :)
