mine just came in the mail :) I was curious if anyone else notices the backlight lights on the bottom - especially when it's dark, the bottom of the screen looks like it has two little flashlights pointing up. Is this normal or is mine defective?

now with pic

also it makes a weird beeping noise when it starts up or shuts down...it didn't at first. and it's not really beeping, its more like...croaking. two croaks at startup, two at shutdown, in addition to the normal sounds. maybe I do have a defective one...

Had one, yes noticed it.

btw there's a hacked firmware that allows up to 3min videos, worth a look if you are interested.

My S200 has outlasted 3 cameras (Sony u30, Sony U40, and Canon A75).

Just can't seem to kill it no matter how much I try. I just took it skiing last week and dropped it in some snow (I was trying to take videos while skiing).

It's a nice size and comes with LiON batteries, very nice and solid digicam.

However I still prefer the larger body of the A40.

3 minutes of VGA video? The stock stuff says it does 30 seconds of VGA and 3 minutes of QVGA and QQVGA. I played with the video for a little bit, it's suprisingly good. I think this camera and I are in for a long-term relationship :)

No creaky noises with mine, just the hum of the motor..that backlight issue sounds a lot like the one some people have been having with their Dell2005FP LCD monitors.. It's up to you whether or not you get it replaced or not.

I think I'm going to. Weird backlighting + weird noise = RMA.

I bought it from Newegg...how do you do an RMA, call?

I've got two A75s (well, I have one and I loved it so much I bought one for my sister for Xmas) and I noticed the backlight thing on both of them (both ordered from totally different places). At first I thought mine was defective but since they both have it I guess it's just normal. Great camera though, I love the video capabilities of it.

I have one. Almost all the pics on my website (see sig) were taken with it. I love the camera, easy to use and figure out and the photo quality is wonderful. Only gripe is the bottom half of the little automatic lens dust cover thing that pops open and closed when you turn on/off the camera is usually stuck open. But it's my fault that happened since I dropped the camera and the spring came off the little shutter. It still shuts if you smack the camera, but I just take extra care now. The camera itself still takes pictures like a champ though!
