Hi,
I want to build a small black case. I've been looking at the cases out there and I'm wondering how hard it's going to be to match the floppy and DVD drive to the case. If someone has built something like this could you tell me what case and drives you used.
whats the least amount of watts the PS can be to run a XP1800. I know it has to be AMD approved but wasn't sure how small I could go and still have an AMD approved one.

My black case has a door to hide the drives :) you can buy black ones, but they cost a bit more. As for the PSu question I think 350watt or higher is good. I wouldn't go below 350watt

250 watts is the lowest on the amd site I THINK...

Dell makes nice black computers =D, they match the monitor, drives, and speakers to the color for you...Might wanna get in on one of those $600 p4 1.8s from them

Thanks for the replies. I'd like to build it myself so I can pick each and every part going into the build. I'm limited on how high my case can be at 18" because of where its going.

A few weeks ago, I posted a question about matching beige drives to a black case. Several members responded that it is quite easy to paint the drive bezels using "vinyl dye" I haven't had a chance to try yet, but after looking around at some case modding sites, it seems to be a pretty straightforward mod and the results look good. Apparently, you can pick up vinyl dye at your local automotive store. Good luck.

I built on a black computer case (cube YY0221 server case) a year or so ago.

I really wanted all the black drives (floppy, zip and CDROM to match.)

First I picked up a Teac black floppy drive. ($15). Then I found that Teac also made black CDROM drives (CD-532E-A) .. luckilly when I got the CDROM drive, the shade of black matched perfectly.

Then when I was looking for the zip drive, I found alot of places that had the bezel from that Apple uses in their Mac G3/G4. Unfortunately, this is more like translucent black than standard black. I then found that on the new black cases that Dell uses, that they have black zip drives faceplates that match.

I also found the following
1) IBM NetVista 48x-20x IDE CDROM - Stealth black matches the Teac black color. (Teac black = IBM stealth black)
2) Plextor also sells an OEM black faceplate for their CDRW with their name on it, but I haven't found a reliable place to buy one (some online places just paint the drives themselves and resell)
3) there is also a black version of the Pioneer DVDrom slot loading drive, but never found any from a good reseller.

There are black components available. Directron has a pretty good selection. I've dealt with them several times and have had good luck.

There's another online place that has lots of black components but they don't have a very good reputation. It's called "Harddrive.com", but I've also seen it called "Thortek". They have a section of black stuff, but I've heard that some of it is stuff that they've painted themselves. Caveat Emptor.

Some of the regular online retailers carry black stuff also, just not very much, and it's generally not grouped together in one place. You might browse around on Newegg, Mwave and Googlegear and see what you find.

Very easy to build a black system, I did it a couple months ago. As Ralf mentioned, directron is an excellent source. They even have a section dedicated to black. I got the Fong Kai 320b (highly recommended), a black Toshiba 16x DVD, then from Newegg, got a 24x Lite-On black CDRW. Then you need to get a black monitor. Directron just got in stock the great Viewsonic G90fb (flat, black). Excellent monitor!! It was hard to get when I built my system, so you might want to grab it while you can. here.

I wouldn't buy a black case. I'd buy a plain beige case, paint it, and paint all the components. As long as you aren't putting a window in, painting isn't really all that difficult.

I recently painted my Addtronics 6896a 'Hammered' black. Instead of painting the drives black, too, I painted them metallic silver as an accent. It looks pretty good, if I may say so myself. ;)

I ended up buying the cheap black evercase at newegg (no power supply) so I could add a real quiet enermax whisper...the thing nearly three times as much as the freakin case HAHAHA. As well, I got the black DVD and CDRW that was mentioned earlier. An unexpected bonus was that there was a hard drive mount directly inline with the front intake fan to cool my HDs. As well, there's a side intake hole in the door...not bad for a $25 case ($40 shipped)

My Jet Black Stallion Panther Negro Case

If you want black components, just paint them black with a can of automotive laquer paint like I did. It's friggen $3 a can. In the pic you can see I painted one of my CDroms black and it matches the case perfectly. I also painted the other 2 but didn't update the pics.

Just mask out the LEDs and spray away. I used a small paint brush to paint the dials and you can use a black sharpie for touchups.

You don't necessarily have to buy black drives, monitor, or keyboards as some may not be as good of quality as he boaring colored ones. Just go and buy the best hardware, regardless f color, and paint them. Nice and easy, just take off the faceplates.

Just my two cents.

Directron.com sells quite a few black components and cases. I have the 860 w/ hydralic door and it works fairly well. It was one of the few cases that wasn't overly tall yet had 3 5.25" bays that didn't interfere with an 8KTA3

I think they call the antec one "charcoal" black......not sure if any of the drives match that shade.
