anyone have a asus s-400 40x?

Is my computer screwed up or does this cdrom take a really long time to spin up.. example.. clicking on my computer and it takes like 10secs to show becasue the cdrom spinning like crazy.
 
I sold mine and won't ever get an asus cdrom because of that. It took a really long time and the whole computer would just freeze during the spinup. I tried the cdrom in many other computers without success. Lately, I tried an asus 50x: same problem. Well no more asus for me, they might be fast but this is ridiculous. Aopen and LG have some nice cdrom.
 
10 seconds sounds very excessive.
Sure they take a little time to spin up, but mine takes like 2-3 seconds tops, hardly noticeable.

IMO its a very good CDROM since it's very good at reading scrached discs, el cheapo CD-R's etc, and has pretty decent performance.
 
Like Sunner, mine only takes 2-3 seconds, maybe just a little bit more.

Why don't you try cleaning the lens? That can usually fix a lot of problems.
