Anyone have a ASA rule-book handy? Question regarding sliding.

Dispute has come up a few times so far this season, and of course, no one has an official rule book. At first we thought the runner HAS to slide if there is a possible play at the base (non force out). But, after we were told otherwise, of course we end up on the other end of the rule, and the other team was stating you DO have to slide. Stated it was in the rules. Ump made call, and we were ok, but I figure would help if someone had an actual rule book I could quote on sliding.

TIA!

I don't know the softball rule but that would seem very strange to force a runner to slide. In baseball it's at the runner's discretion.

That is the "code". Not the rule book.

fine.

Q. Where can I get a copy of your Official Rules of Softball?

A. ASA Rule Books are only distributed at the local level by the ASA Commissioner or their staff. Please contact your local State/Metro Commissioner or Umpire-In-Chief.

I guess the issue is (this is a slow-pitch rec-league BTW) is of "charging", in this case the catcher, when coming home. Even then, hardly charged him. Ran home, didn't slide, catcher couldn't catch the incoming throw because the runner did not slide and got in their way or whatever.

lol, was nice tho. Other team got all riled up over it, lost their composure, we ended up scoring 11 runs that inning (top of the 7th) and winning by 7 :D

One time in freshman baseball, one of my teammates jumped a tag at second. He was called out. The Ump said, "There is no jumping in baseball."

can't help you with the softball rules, sorry.

The ump was wrong, it's "There is no crying in baseball."

"Crying? CRYING?! There's no crying in baseball!"
