Anyone Have a 6800 Die Yet?

I don't know how many of you read his blog but... here is what it said: August 4th

There wasn't anything special going on in the NV meeting (there was another NVIDIA meeting earlier today that was more special), the phone call was to cover two issues. The first was this issue with dying GeForce 6800 Ultra cards; at this point we've had one PCI Express NV45 and one AGP 6800 Ultra completely die on us. We've also had one 6800 show up at our doorstep DOA, not to mention two other GeForce 6 cards that have been acting up today. As long as there are no issues with cards that you all have bought, I'm happy, otherwise this is a problem. I have no idea what's causing it but it's something that we are paying attention to.

Has anyone else experienced problems like this?

EDIT*************

The card review of Doom had a defective Ultra Extreme: Dead

Not all tests are without problems, and this time we experienced some issues with our 6800 Ultra Extreme part. We noticed visual artifacts as we were running our AA tests. These kept getting worse as time went on, and not even letting the card cool down would help fix the problem. Eventually, our system rebooted while we were testing and wouldn't get through another benchmark run.

Is Doom killing 6800's?

I've no worries. I'm sure BFG will take good care of me if my GT dies.

I have an EVGA GT :Q only one year warranty. I am going to step up to the Ultra in October... I hope this is not a problem with the architecture? I had a problem with my first time trying to overclock last night. I downloaded coolbits and clicked "determine best frequency" button. Everytime something different:

416 / 1200
401 / 1100
395 / 1090

Anyway.... set it to 400 / 1100 with no artifacts that I could tell. Then my far cry began freezing for five seconds every now and then.... it quit when I set it back to 350 / 1000. I hope it doesn't die :(

that makes me wonder if they are giving the people that run the tests differant cards than the ones they are selling us, since no one else is reporting deaths.

its possible that those cards have been passed from review site to review site, each one taking it apart for photos etc, each one running OC tests on it. that kind of stress might kill a card.

This is obviously more cheating on the part of ATi. They somehow got to Anand's comp and destroyed the card.

I suspect ninjas. Good thing they didn't flip out and kill the whole place.

I find it hard to believe that the same card would be passed around to the various review sites. I figured all the major sites like AT would get their own card and would be able to keep it after the testing and benchmarking is complete.

Is it possible that the bigger review sites got pre-production reference card samples, that might have been made before "yields" of the chips stablized? Ie. they might have gotten "rough" silicon, maybe a little buggy or prone to defects?

i thought that his motherboard might be killing them, said he had allot die on him. It might have let the other cards survive since they dont draw as much power. But that is a "way out there" guess.

i recall early on, when it has just been announced, websites were complaining that the cards they got had been taken apart etc by sites who had it before them. this was 3 months ago though..

There is only one solution:

Clock it as high as it will possibly run to get that huge 4fps improvement, and then watch in awe as it hurtles headlong toward the grave repeating to yourself,"Those 4fps were FREE. It was definitely worth it!"

;)

eVGA 6800s are weak overclockers, and seem to crash/lockup and have issues.. I tested two of them here before picking the BFG..

Anyway.. I've said it time and time again.. BUY CARDS WITH THE BEST WARRANTY! BFG6800GT-OC has a LIFETIME warranty. So if it dies.. WHO CARES! They send you a brand new one... But if you bought a eVGA or Leadtek, then you are SOL, because of their rediculous 1 year warranty crap.

Running solid at 420/1100 on my BFG6800GT-OC Doom Edition. Not a single crash, lockup or artifact. I've played 4-5 hours of Doom-3 at those settings, and have run 20+ timedemos on it...

Yeah- WHO CARES! Just steal another from honest people like the scumsucking piece of trash bottom feeding thief you were born to be! Carpe diem! Get your girlfriend pregnant and apply for welfare while you're at it! Sometimes they have collection boxes full of money on the doors of churches, go take some of them too!

This kind of immature, amoral, parasitic post literally makes me ill. Don't these people have parents?!

No kidding. If I read one more post about someone thinking it's a great idea to RMA their failed softmod or OC their already OCed card, I'm gonna puke. These are the same kids who complain about the prices too, never thinking that every card they break and send back is another reason their cards cost 3-400 dollars. Treat your hardware right instead of making someone else pay for your incompetence.

It's the American way, fraud and frivolous law suits are the norm. Those of us that place personal integrity and personal accountability above the Daffy Duck "Mine! mine! all mine!" greed mentality and right to entitlement complex are near extinction :(

so wait, i should stop overclocking my pny gt to make you feel better?

if i underclock it, would you be my friend?

If a part fails its rarely cuz its oc.
Fact, every hw failure ive ever witnessed has been a non overclocked part. Ive never had an oc part fail, ever. This is going back to pentium2 and tnt1.

If you oc it right, no one gets hurt... everyones happy.
