Anyone have $10,000 just sitting around?

Because of a clerical error in my financial aid processing, my application was delayed and the amount of my awards was reduced (since they are partially based on availability). Therefore, unless I can come up with $10,000 by the spring fee deadline, I won't be around.

List of awards here

/edit

After some calculations, I'm actually going to be $2063 short of payment for this fall semester alone.

You could take out a student loan. The interest rates are rock bottom. Also you wont have to pay if until you graduate. Just a thought.

Those are all the federal and other loans available from the school. If I were to take out a seperate loan, it would have to be from private entity; not a good idea.

Looks like at this point, a PLUS loan is about your only option. What happened to the scholarships you received last year...?

Edit: Or, as you said, a loan from the private sector. You won't get as good a deal as a federal loan, but banks and such are generally willing to work with students on these sorts of things.

I would consider this as well

you could always sue though it would probably be a few thousand just for lawyer fees

Sue based on what grounds? Geesh and error occurs and it doesn't take long for someone to scream SUE!

I graduated from Georgia Tech 3 years ago. I went all student loans except the 1st year when i received a $1k scholarship. When I started, total costs (tuition+housing+meals+etc.) was about 14k (out of state).

Well...if the error wasn't my fault, and it cost me $10k in financial aid, I'd be pretty dayam pissed off as well.

I have never encountered any bureaucracy as inefficient as the one that distributes financial aid to students at Florida State. Even after you are approved they never put the right amount of money in your account (if they put it at all).

I guess you are dealing with pretty much the same problem. Sorry, dude, I know that really sucks. :frown:

Where did you get your loans from? I'm talking about those from the private sector of course. As you can see from above, they didn't even give me another Federal Perkins Loan.

I go to SJSU and my financial aid got delayed as well. Tuition was due about a week ago, but I got a fee deferral from the school. They were going to automatically deduct it from my financial aid before sending me a check.

If I were in your shoes and didn't want to take other loans, consider talking to family members.

But this is not a sue-able issue. It's an error and he's not out anything, per se. If the error was not made he still would be in the same situation.
