I think if ATI would spend some quality time on the installation package itself, concentrating on complete removal of existing drivers and registry entries, it would solve ALOT of driver related problems.

That is the sole reason why I hate upgrading my drivers on my Radeon.

There is a known problem with the 2.2 Catalyst drivers. The 2D driver is more or less broken and can cause your system to crash when using various apps, Mozilla and Opera for example. As far as I know this hasn't been fixed yet so it's something you might want to take note of.

I have read of quite a few complaints about the Cat. 2.2s over at rage3d.com, so I am hesitant to upgrade to them, especially since everything works just great on my Radeon 7500 now (running pre-Cat drivers). I get hardware DVD acceleration in PowerDVD (something I lost with one set of drivers) and 90+ FPS in Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, Urban Terror, and America's Army at 1024x768@32 with 2x FSAA and 2x AF. I will consider the Cat. 2.3s when they become available.
Hmmm...interesting. If this is a known issue, why does it not occur often? The 2.2 Catalysts are WHQL certified IIRC, so it seems unlikely to me that if there were serious 2D issues with them, MS would just certify them as is. I'm using them on two different ATI cards on two different systems and I have experienced no instability even with both systems and cards overclocked.

Yeah, it's a rather strange problem, only certain 2D programs seem to set it off Opera, Mozilla are two that I know off but I think there are a few others. I use Mozilla 99% of the time now and had my system hang on me at least 3 times when using the 2.2's, so I'm back to the 2.1's now. There were a few threads over at Rage3D I'll see if can find them and post them here.
Well, I don't use Opera or Mozilla, so I can't comment on problems with those programs. If it is primarily those programs, are you sure it's not something to do with Opera and Mozilla and not ATI's drivers?
