I know the chance is slim but...does anyone have RCN as his/her ISP?? The way RCN sets up their cable modem is really weird and I'm wondering if DLink's DI604 or any other router would work on their cable modem network.
Basically downloads go through the coax cable like any other normal cable service but uploads go through this phone line attached to their special cable modem. Has anyone heard of this kind of structure??

dnetmhz- thanks for your reply. Do you use a router for the 2-way cable modem?? Also, do you know if RCN logs the MAC addresses, ie do I have to clone my pc's IP once I put my router on??

Yes I use a router.. All that happens when i connect from a different MAC address is I'm assigned a different IP but I'm not denied access or anything like that like some providers do. I can switch between my router and a direct PC connection with out any trouble.

RCN...this is how you would set up RCN...first, dial into their service via their dialup software...then get the MAC address of the original computer and then clone it into the router... from there on, you should be up and running. You may also need to type in "RCN.COM" as the domain name.

it should work, as I have set many ppl up behind routers like this...
