Looks like a crp kit... how long do you plan on keeping the car? Is the oem kit that much more expensive? I'd stick with oem when it comes to timing belts.

I prefer Asin TB kits . I buy them at rockauto.com . There is usually 5% coupon floating around.

I like Aisin kits better as well, but I've never had any issues with a Conti kit. The water pump in that kit looks like a Japanese-made OEM equivalent (as opposed to the crap in the gates kit or what parts houses sell). Should be decent parts.

I am planning to keep car for 2-4 more years. OEM water pump is around 150 on amazon and tensioner 133.

Checked rockauto, no asin TB kit available.

Because of water pump I am not getting Gates.

Only issue I have with OEM parts is I will have to buy parts myself and will lead to liability issues since I bought my own parts. I went to dealer for quote he said around 700-1000 just for belt and water pump change, no pulley or tensioner, he said cost will depend on quality of parts he uses. I was like what quality, there should be OEM parts, but since I was overwhelmed with price I just left. I have school group on facebook for guys who are passionate about cars, I asked there, they recommended a shop which give me pretty good quote, $316 labor for all pulley, belt, water pump, thermostat, spark plugs. It was with gates kit, I asked him for new one with this kit and camshaft, crankshaft seal included.

If you're paying a shop to do it why not just have the shop use OEM parts? You'll still save a ton on labor and you won't have to worry about quality of parts and since the shop is buying the parts there's no issues with you providing parts.

The shop should be able to get the oem parts at wholesale price.

FWIW I used the Gates kit (including pump) on my own car.

I don't think they use/offer OEM parts. He sent me quote with gates kit and after my so many question I haven't got any reply yet. In gates my car takes tckwp340 which has bad reviews for water pump on amazon. In this perticular kit all the parts are from same manufacture as OEM (I guess).

Split the difference. Use the gates kit and supply an OEM water pump. I don't think the shop will complain given it's an OEM part.

The pump in contitech kit from NPW which is original source of Mitsubishi. If I buy gates kit without water pump I would have to buy tensioner seperatly as well. I really don't want to spend $150 on water pump.

I have been searching on web and getting confused. So far I came up with these.

I found this on ebay offers all Japaneses parts.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/272190685462

Second is this one from continental

OEM thermostat

Third one is I found parts separately

GMB water pump
Aisin Tensioner
Pully and belt from Gates
OEM thermostat

Also consider since you're working with a shop you don't want to piss them off either. You're already saving a ton of money over the dealer hence my comment to "split the difference".

I will try asking him, I have been talking with him over email since I am in different city currently, I will be going back to my place at end of the month. So will probably see him on weekend.
