I have this one and I love it. I did tons of research into this over the summer and it turned out to be the best one.

If you want send me an AIM, same name as on here.. Lord Jezo ...and I can tell you most everything you want to know about it.

As for which ones suck.. Awia and Sony ones blow.

We have the JVC Kameleon in wife's car, and I have the JVC SH-99

They both rock.

I have the Aiwa CDC-mp3.

Colors are very loud. So if you like flashy systems, this one's for you (it flashes blue everytime you adjust the volume). It reads the actual filenames, not the ID tags. Fairly decent in loading up the tracks. It does skip sometimes, so there's not enough buffer in it.

Have played w/ the Kenwood KDC-MP8017. One unit @ Circuit City that I checked out unimpressed me. When I pushed the buttons, the faceplate moved. The buttons were a bit of a pain to figure out after getting used to the easy button usage on my Aiwa (although the fwd/back buttons are a bit pointy on the Aiwa). Even my friend who just got one of these wasn't sure how to use all of his functions. He couldn't even figure out how to get the clock to show at the time. Had to get out the instructions to figure out how to get the face off, too. Although his deck does not have the flimsy face problems that the Circuit City deck did. However, I'm guessing that it'll happen to his in time due to heavy usage. Also, the Kenwood reads ID tags, not the track names.

That's all I know. Hope it helps :)

I had the AIWA cdc-mp3 when it first came out and well, it was a first generation deck and I was pleased to have one. It played mp3s and sounded good since I hooked it up to an amp and had good speakers.

It had a skipping problem and did not display id3 tags. What you got was the name of the file (32 characters or something like that). So if the name was long, it got cut off. If the name was short, you'd get something like name_of_song.mp3... it's the sacrafice you make for being an early adopter.

Now, I have the JVC-SH99 in my car and I like it a lot better than the AIWA CDC-MP3. First, both decks are detachable, which is a must for me. The JVC has a built-in AMP which made my stock speakers sound a lot better. Yea, I'm still using my stock speakers because I got into an accident and haven't installed my system yet.

Besides the good sound, it looks slick. It displays ID3 tags like a charm and does not skip. You get to label radio stations, which is pretty cool, and it comes at a decent price.

My Aiwa works like ucdnam's. No ID tag support. Unless you can change it somewhere in the settings. I'd have to look in the instructions. But no amt of fiddling w/ it has gotten it to read the ID tags. I get the cut off filenames. Or they end in .mp3 if they're shorter. Perhaps aves2k got a newer, upgraded version. I don't know. I just know that mine does not do ID tags.

Pretty much sounds like the JVC units are the way to go. The nifty Fosgate one on the Crutchfield page looks good, but dang. It's some buck$ !
