Hi, just wondering if anyone has managed to make use of their santa cruz flawlessly under win2k. I've been having problem, such as crackling stalls in mp3 playback and never able to correct it. I've done a search within the forum and the problem seems to be involved with issues of irq sharing.. I've tried every pci port on my epopx 8k7a+ but none of the combination solved my problem... Right now I am using PCI 2 for my sound card and pci 6 for my NIC, but still the same problem. Anyone else has the same setup might help me out a little bit with their suggestion? Thanks.

I installed ACPI, but according to what I've read, it should work at both setting... did anyone actually try reinstalling win2k and disable acpi and found significant improvement? btw, I am using the lately driver too. I don't know if this has anything to do with the fact that i bought this from dell, since the driver dell provided has the same problem too when i installed it.

im not positively sure what was causing my problems at first but i do know that my current configuration has been pretty stable with no obvious issues.

Installed W2k with acpi OFF (standard PC)
installed all MOBO drivers
installed SP2
installed video drivers
installed latest Santa Cruz drivers (i think they are the 4098's, the website says its for XP but in the README file it says they are for all OS's
installed the rest of my stuff

anyway this order of installing drivers and programs worked for me. oh and with ACPI off your computer won't shutdown completely (ie. screen that says "your pc is ready to be shut down" will show up) but there is a work around for that...

BTW, with ACPI off, you will be able to tweak IRQ settings which I think is a big plus.

I did exactly what you and the others said to disable acpi and reinstalled win2k with sp2 and the latest xp driver. But the problem still persists. I tried all version of the driver and none of them seem to help. The following is my irq assignment:
0: system timer
1: keyboard
3: COM2
4: COM1
5: Radeon
6: floppy
8: system CMOS
9: Santa cruz
10:NIC
10: VIA USB
11: Onboard Raid
12: Mouse
13: Numeric data processor
14: VIA Ultra DMA channel
15: SCSI/raid controller

I don't know what else I should do to improve the situation... any idea? Everything else seems to be running normally without acpi.
Thanks
