Yes and no. Just look at the PS2/Xbox era. A geforce 2 was practically useless one generation later.

With true programability and the rapid development cycles, the hardware has really outpaced the software now.

Here's the framerate count of RE5, you'll notice how PS3 goes as low as 24FPS while the 360 stay locked at 30FPS.

Now compare that to the RE5 benchmarks we have for the PC, and it's clear to see that PS3 GPU is a lot slower than a 8800GTX

Your thinking of the 360. The PS3's GPU only has 256MB GDDR3 700MHz a 128bit bus ( 22.4GB/s bandwidth ).
