Anyone has a TV Tuner on USB1.0/2.0 port?

Hi all,

I am interesting in knowing how TV tuner are working.
Since I have a laptop, I can only put a USB tv tuner, and I am afraid of it.

there are two standard for USB: 1.0 and 2.0 which is much faster.

does anyone have tested those?
crashing ?
time of latency when switching channels?

Thanks and have a nice day!

Sylvain

There are plenty of USB TV tuners - WinTV makes some USB ones that could be had for cheap on eBay right now.

USB 2.0 is much faster (about 40x) but USB1.1 will handle regular broadcast video just fine. Haven't heard of any exceptional issues of crashing or latency - just a little more CPU requirements as opposed to a PCI card.

Thans for you respon M4H,

Searching through the forum, I found this link:
http://www.aver.com/products/tvtuner.shtml
this device was said to be good, and I am gonna try to know more...

For some other tunes, I heard of 3 second of latency to switch for a channel to another!! (to me it's a big issue..).

I have also a question may be more uncommon: if I buy the tuner here, can I use it on europe also???

Thanks,

Sylvain

No. USA uses the NTSC broadcast standard, and the UK will use PAL. Unless you can find a universal tuner (if such a beast exists) you'll need a separate device for each region.

I have a USB 1 TV tuner in the closet somewhere. It worked fine, I don't remember any lag changing channels. I had it hooked up to a laptop that was on my tredmill.

I think it was a WinTV, it was red and green I think.

I use to have a PCI tuner tv card.
and I remember I could swithc from NTSC to other standard...
(I dont really remember for NTSC, but at least, I could choose between all PAL standards..)

Can anyone confirm for the capability of these tuner to work in usa and europe??

Thanks,

Sylvain
