this is my situation. i play quake 3 religiously, and ever since the day that excite@home went down,
it appears as though my cable has been crap. roadrunner suddenly spikes up, gives me connection
interuption etc etc. looking around i see earthlink DSL offers a 1.5MB DSL plan for $50 a month (which
is the exact same thing i pay now for cable). they also promise speeds of up to 1.5MB/s download and
128KB/s on the upstream. i currently get 170kb/s down, and 35kb/s up. now everything about switching
to earthlink DSL at this time seems too good to be true. is it?

Are you getting 35 kilobits/sec up or 35 kilobytes/sec upstream? 128kpbs corresponds to about 15KB/sec or so. I do not know how religiously they cap your upload, however.

The DSL will be 1.5Mbps, not 1.5MBps down, and same for the upstream, 128Kbps, bot 128KBps...

Mine is like this and I am very close to the central office so I actually get these speeds, but I only pay $30/month too... :D

Ive got the 1.5Mbps/384Kbps DSL through Purdue University/Verizon. I play a lot of Counterstrike and I have run into very few lag problems. Great service for only $32.75/month.
