Anyone had this problem?

I just did a fresh format/install of win 98 onto a clean drive, went to download.com to get my eval copy of Winzip 8.0 ... when I go to install it says "WinZip installation procedure could not proceed because the following window is not responding:

Window Titlle: WIN 95 RPC Wmsg Window
Window Class: OleMain ThreadWndClass Ox#########"


any love out there for my prob????

If you are experiencing a OLE error (object linking and embedding error) then you may need to repair the OLE related files on your system. The easiest way to do this is to run the DCOM98 patch from microsoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom98/dcom1_3.asp

That will usually fix the problem. Let me know.

I d/l the patch and installed.... rebooted.... tried it again... and still got the same error message 🙁

Disable all of the application in your system tray (next to the time on your start-bar). Especially any virus scanners.
Then try to run it again. If it still doesn't work, try downloading Winzip again.

If all else fails, update your web browser. Since Internet Explorer updates replace the system shell, there is a good chance that it will also fix your problem. I find IE 5.5 SP2 is pretty stable so I would suggest upgrading to that one first.

Funny, when I had this same error installing WinZip, I just rebooted, and tried re-installing - it worked. You said you rebooted, so I don't know what could be the problem.
