all the reviews I read about thosee 2 boards were EXcellent!

however, I had a quite a few friends who said those boards are flawed with bugs... which I'ven't heard from all those online reviews...

anyone here has one of these boards and testify it?

I had a P3BF about 2 months after they were released. At first I liked it, than something screwy happened with the BIOS, it somehow set the clock to 100 years in the future, and would reset it back to that time sporadically after fixing it. As well, I got too many blue screens of death with it. After that, I moved form Asus, and to be honest I am not sure if I will go back to them. Their tech support was terrible, wouldn't answer emails at all.

I was disapointed too, as I used to have an old XP55T2P4 for my old p200 classic that worked like a champ.

So, 1 vote here for CRAP. I hope they fixed them in later batches though.

I use them in most of our systems at work, very stable and reliable. I use Celeron Slotkets as well as P!!!'s. 1 vote for good.

I had a P3B-F a while back.....now I have a CUSL2. I had absolutely no problems at all with the P3B-F. The BIOS updates went on well and it was great for overclocking. I have no idea why the other people had problems.....for me it was a really great board. Perhaps the only one that was better that I have ever owned was the P2B.

What kind of bugs are we talking here. I have the P3B-F for six months now. My system along with 500E running it at 750Mhz flawlessly. Haven't reboot for a while now.

Asus makes great boards, period. The P3B-F is still one of the best boards to use for an Intel platform, esp. if you plan to O/C. I have built 17 systems for people around this board alone, not a single problem. As with any motherboard though, a lot depends on the core logic chipset, and even a high quality motherboard cannot make up for a crap chipset.

Yes, their TS does suck, but as previously noted, they release BIOS updates constantly. And as with all companies, your first line of contact should always be your reseller. If you buy from a skanky reseller, that's your fault. And if you have a good reseller, and still can't figure out how to resolve the problem within their return period (usually 30 days) but fail to return it for an exchange, then that is your own fault as well.

I too have built over ten puters using the P3B-F and never had a problem.
I have built many with Soyo boards too, had one bad one and never gone back to them.
My 2 cents

I just moved up from a BH6 C450A to a P3B-F C2 566@850 and don't regret the move. It is a mature mobo with good BIOS updates. It even has an auto BIOS update feature that can be done from a windows environment. I don't know if I will ever go back to an Abit product at this point in time.

I currently use a P3B-F and I have not had any problem with it. I have used only ASUS boards from the old TP4XE (non MMX Pentium board) and even this ancient board of mine is being used by a friend without a problem. Never had a problematic ASUS board ever since I started using them 4 - 5 years back. I will never use any other companies MoBo.

I have a P3B-F in my second system. No problems with it whatsoever. I can't speak for the CUBX but I can speak for ASUS. One word. Quality, with a capital Q.

Both my main systems use P3B-Fs since I was so impressed with the first one. It is one of the most rock solid boards I have ever used even when overclocked. Both systems are overclocked and 99% stable. One system has not crashed to date, period. The other system crashes once in a great while with UT or when I was fiddling with SoftICE. No stability issues with any of the other things I have done with them. I play a lot of games. To me out of the probably 40 games I've installed on that machine, UT being the only one to have problems points to the game and not the machine to me. I can't think of a better motherboard. It would be questionable to purchase one at this point though since the i815 came out.

From what I've seen the CUBX has a lot more problems than the P3B-F. There were some major issues with it when it first came out I don't know if they have all been resolved with BIOS updates or not. However, the ones on the shelf probably don't have the BIOS updates and a lot of the problems were that the board wouldn't work with some processors. If you can't get it to boot you can't flash the BIOS.

Edit: I leave my primary machine on all the time, it's on a UPS and stays up through power outages. When life has been busy and I have not been tweaking with it, I have had uptimes of over a month with it twice. That is what I mean by 99% stable. That is with playing games and browsing the web, using SecureCRT, and other activities every day during the month.

I had a P3B-F and it was the WORST board I EVER used! I had SOOO many problems with it. It didn't work with my SB Live!, it had problems with power management, and all sorts of other things.

Anyone had problems? Me! CUBX sucks. The whole reason I bought this board was because it could handle 8 ide devices...well, just try using a burner with one of these things! The CMD controller's all f'd up...and while searching for a solution all I've found is more people in the same boat I am. = (

On the other hand, I've heard great things about Asus. Worked at a computer store that used them exclusively with very very few problems. I also have an Asus P2B-B that works quite well...in fact perfect thus far. So, Asus = good. CUBX = bad.

P3B-F is very stable and very fast.....excellent quality....just make sure that you upgrade the BIOS.

For those that have had problems with the CUBX, in particular Celeron overclocking problems and glitches with the onboard CMD controller, there are new drivers out for the CMD controlller, otherwise wait for the new CUBX-E with a Promise ATA100 controller.

I`ve not had a problem with my CUBX. Using 2 Maxtor ATA66 and a TEAC cd and Plex8432.

The new CMD controller doesn't fix everything. It now detects the hard drives in the correct UDMA mode, but CDR software still runs super slow...

I've read lots of problems with the CUBX with Celerymine (but not really PIII Coppermine). So my friend bought a guaranteed Celerymine (from a source I trust) and a brand spankin' new CUBX 1 week before that, and guess what? He's had major problems. He can run stable enough in Windows 98 at a reasonable voltage at 533A@800. However, even though he's using Arctic Silver and an Alpha, it becomes LESS stable with any increases in voltages and it refuses to run Windows 2000 except at 533 MHz, at any voltage.

That is one crap board, at least for now with Celeron Coppermine.

Eug, I believe that is one of the known problems with the CUBX. Changing the voltage on it doesn't actually do anything from what I've heard.
