Anyone had ordered pair of eye glasses online?

The kid is home from school for the holiday, so naturally we booked his doctor appts in advance so he could get everything done while here.

Surprisingly his right eye has gotten worst and needs new pair of glasses. However, the local shop said it will take three weeks while he is flying back to VA on Jan 2nd.

So while we are looking at some online stores, we realized we forgot to get his face measurements from the tech. He is too shy to call and ask for it now....

Has anyone ordered eye glasses online before? Any recommended sites? How accurate is their tape type measurement tool (on determining temple width and bridge width)?

He is likely going to get transition lens and have it ship to his school.

TIA

Zenni gets my vote for cheapest/best online optical store -

Go to Costco, have him try on multiple pair and take a pic of the size/measurements on the frame that he likes best. They can also measure his PD.

I've used Zenni a lot of times in the past 15+ years. Wearing a pair of progressive lenses from them right now. Dunno about the accuracy of their measurement tool, I took a pair of glasses I liked and measured that and used those dimensions as a basis.

there are online stores that have guides on the measurements they use. most are pupil spacing-width and overall frame width. the temple length is part of the frame size so you are expected to bend the metal types to hook around the ear yourself.
