I am trying to find anyone that has had 3 vertabrae fused in their neck. What problems did they have, how long did it take to recover etc.

Thanks,

Carl

I have looked after many patients who have had this done....moderate pain, fairly quick recovery provided there are no other complications!

I had fusion of 6 and 7, then a couple years later on 5 and 6. So I guess that's three fused together. It's been about 6 years since the last one and I have had no trouble and still have full range of motion in my neck. It might be different for you since yours is higher.

But I try to avoid trouble - no amusement park rides, etc. I don't do things that would potentially cause me any more neck problems.

I wore a hard collar for a week, then a soft collar for a couple of weeks. After that, nothing.

I had C 5,6 and C6,7 fused about 4 years ago. (still have a bad c 4,5 and c2,3 but they don't want to fix those at this point.) Actually had C6-7 done twice, the graft didn't take. I thought the surgery and recovery was pretty easy considering the nature of things, got out of the hospital the next day both times.

I was out of action for about 2 months both times. The first time I wore a soft collar at first, the second time i wore a hard collar for the entire 2 months.

If you have a real physically demanding job consider doing something else if possible. After the second surgery I went from being a construction worker to a social worker. Just be careful the first couple of months and do what your told and you will be fine.

good luck to you, Todd
