Anyone Hacked Lite-on 451 to 851?

hevnsnt

Lifer
Upgrading a lite-on 451s to an 851s.
(4x dvd burner to 8x)

451s to 851s:

1.) Run LDW851FP.exe over GSOH.exe (851s firmware)

2.) Double click GSOH.exe and follow instructions.

Worked like a CHARM!

I am currently burning at 8x!!!

Your burner will contact the FBI and you will be arrested for illegal activity.

i'm just wonder what will happen if the hack goes awry

I recently saw a mention of upgrading the 411s to the 811s. I think I even found the download links necessary. But, because the success rate seemed fairly low (i.e., people are fare more likely to post/complain about failures than about successes), I didn't go any further.

When you say "Run LDW851FP.exe over GSOH.exe (851s firmware)" are you saying we should first run GSOH.exe first, then run the LDW851FP.exe? I just want to be sure I run these exe's in the correct order.

Expand the GSOH (from the zip)

Then run LDW851FP and it asks you for a source file, point it to GSOH.exe. It will patch the exe, then you run GSOH

If it goes bad, there are plenty of tools to fix it, however I have not heard of anyone f'n up with this method. However the 411s is a little harder (still can be done to a 811s) but I have not tried it. (Don't have a 411)

Thanks for the clarification hevnsnt

I tried it and it worked flawlessly. Nero Info tool now shows it as firmware GSOH. I'll try to do some 8x burnin'

By the way, can anyone confirm burning 8x at both DVD+R and DVD-R? I'd love to be able to burn 8x with DVD-R, which in my opinion is superior.

I think the 851s is 8x +R and 4x -R.. I think it is the 812? that is 8x -R
