Anyone got any issues with Netscape 6?

I have downloaded it but havent install it yet.
I am going to but I have had bad 'experience' from the N6 PR3.
It doesnt have any problems but it is a real RAM hog and it takes ages to load
on my Windows 2000

It takes 6 seconds to load N6 PR3 and 23MB RAM used without even loading any webpage.

Netscape 6 is so full of it. To use it, you have to have a user name at netscape.com. I didn't, so they made me fill out a form to register. I would be fine with that, if the dang thing didn't freeze up in Win2k while entering the info. At least it didn't overwrite communicator 4.73 so I can still use that................

EDIT: Hmm..........just tried it again and it worked now for some reason. Oh well, it still sucks. The thing is such a memory hog. In win2k, Netscape 4.73 takes 7 megabytes of memory to run with one window open. Netscape 6 takes 30!!!!!!!!

I do.. and I am a hardcore Netscape user.

Netscape is soo filled with bloat. I'm sticking with mozilla from now on.

Starting netscape 6 is slow, and opening new windows is slow, but it seems to load pages quickly. hasnt' crashed yet. it uses a lot of memory but I have 256MB to play with. It's my browser of choice for now, at least until the official Mozilla release.

hrmm, netscape 6 isnt what I imagined it would be... not enough (if any) support for XML (which is a big concern for me) and no support for VBScript (not that it ever promised or even had it before, it just would have been nice). There are a few things I did like about it, one being the skins and the other being the integrated AIM client...

Netscape 4.08 standalone was my previous browser of choice. personally I prefer faster loading pages to a faster loading browser, since I leave netscape open all the time...
Netscape 6 finally offers to remember passwords. 🙂

I just tried it out, and am very disapointed by it.

The install went fine.

I hate that damn java console that it loads and sticks in the system tray.

I had to register a user name at Netscape to use the browser.

The Activation form used to create my account at Netscape crashed 3 times, and was very slow. It took me roughly 10-15 minutes to get registered.

The browser is VERY SLOW when moving from page to page

The browser crashed 2 times in the first 20 minutes of use.

Less than an hour after I installed it, I removed it from my system. This is the worst browser I've ever used. I would just stick to Netscape 4.7. Its fast enough and isnt as bloated. I'm still sticking to IE 5.01 SP1

Yes! Netscape 6 is a real memory hog. It leaks like crazy. I have used PR1 and PR2 (I learned my lesson and didn't try PR3) and each version leaks like crazy, and used 40 megs of RAM and just increases with every page load or new browser. Crazy stuff, not worth it.

Yeah, the Activation form crashed on me about 5 times. The cacheing system doesn't seem to work....Nutscape

The preview releases are not indicative of how the final release performs. The preview release versions contained additional code for the debugger which slows things down and uses more memory. It has not crashed on me, and it's memory use has actually gone down as I've been using it. It's using about 25MB of RAM. Yes I realize that's still a lot, but it's better than 40MB.

I have both Netscape 4.7, Mozilla milestone 18, and IE 4, 5, and 5.5.

I originally ran IE (easy to get) when I started with Windows 9x, and can safely say that I don't like it one bit. many little things.

then came netscape 4.x. stable as hell, not many problems, and fast webpage loading (it only shows the webpage when it's done loading, which is fine, cause I'm prone to clicking the wrong spot while a page is loading, and doing something I don't want to do). my only beef is that it's not very compatible with everything, and it takes a bit more time then IE to load.

now Mozilla! still in beta form too!

stable as hell, but I think I found a bug in it. oh well, I'll get the next major build when it comes out, cause I'm very satisfied with it.

takes a bit longer to load then Netscape 4.x (kindof annoying), it seems to take a bit more memory, takes a bit longer to respond to commands like opening a webpage in a new window (could change, we'll see) however is very compatible with everything I've tried so far. XML works fine, DHTML works fine.. etc. I likes! I just hope they can speed it's responce time up, without making it unstable.

oh and it loads webpages while downloading them, making it prone to me clicking accidentally on something when it is still loading. it's quick though, so I don't mind that much.

overall? none is really any better.. I'm looking forward to the next release of Mozilla.

oh and BTW, all these browsers were installed at the BEGINNING of a fresh install, where I've found that is the best time to get any browser stable for long periods of time (over 6 months).

I just thought of something !!! Doesn't AOHell have something to do with all this crappy performance I'm hearing here. I'll stick with Nutscrape 4.72

I don't get it...The Cache doesn't seem to work. Javascript files that reside in the cache cannot execute because the Cache doesn't work. Example - microsoft.com and their pull down menus.

Also mouseover images are constanly downloaded when the mouse curser moves over it? I don't get it. This is real annoying as my website is all screwed up with Nutscrape 6.

I have the Cache set to 2000k mem/8000k hd on Win2k. Anyone else having this problem?

microsoft.com and their pull down menus.

m$ intentionally made netscape users without the drop down menus, making navigating the m$ site a pain in the neck
if you look at the html of the front page of Micro$oft.com

var userAgent = navigator.userAgent;
var MSIEIndex = userAgent.indexOf("MSIE&quot😉;
if (userAgent.indexOf("Win&quot😉 != -1 &&
userAgent.indexOf("MSIE&quot😉 != -1 &&
userAgent.substring((MSIEIndex + 5),(MSIEIndex + 6)) > 4)
window.location.replace("ms.htm&quot😉;

you can see that you actually load ANOTHER front page if you have a IE4+ browser

man
after all the fuss i had, i finally installed it
I AM FREAKING IMPRESSED 🙂

i love the new themes and the fact that it is a lot more stabilier than before 🙂
no crash no nothing after 30minutes used (fingers crossed)

this thing certainly wont 'replace' IE5.01 on my Win2k
but certainly i will be loading it when i am bored

How do you enable other themes?
I've downloaded a few themes(manually downloaded the JAR files), but I have no idea how to install them?

I can't Netscape 6 to work with the proxy at work, although it IS a Microsoft Proxy... hmmm...

Overall the package looks really nice but it is a memory hog, you can't use this thing to do real work, it's for end users who don't know jack about their computers. I'll stick with IE for now, it's fast and relatively stable and at least it renders pages right, which is more than I can say for any release of Netscape or Mozilla.
