Anyone got an Ipad Mini?

My sons bday is early November and he wants some form of Ipad. I'm quite happy for him to have one as I'm tired of him crouching over my phone and getting bad posture.

i'm thinking of the mini as that probably is lighter than the Ipad 2 and more than ample for him. Does this thing play games ok with no lag and does it handle IOS 7 ok? Does the 512mb ram cause any problems?

How old is your son, and when in November? Many people think the new iPad mini will be released in October-November.

The iPad mini is roughly equivalent in hardware (aside from the screen) to the iPad 2, and while both are OK for iOS 7, they are 2 year old technology. Not ideal for recent 3D games, but it depends on the games he would play.

A new 2013 iPad mini would likely be substantially improved.

I debated vs the Nook HD (rooted) for an 11 year old. Better screen and faster.

He has an iPhone 4s, but isn't locked into Apple. He likes MineCraft, Dragon Story and a couple other games.

Mini vs full sized is something to consider since they are so close in price.

November 7 and he is 6.

Yeah I know the Mini 2 is due out anytime, but it's pretty tight timing. I guess I could go for an Ipad 4 but they are quite a bit more expensive. However I do want to future proof it a bit. I don't want him coming to me in 18 months saying he can't play his games.
