Just out of curiosity, is anyone going to the Winter CES in Vegas?

I'm going to be there with my grandparents and their business, Autotek. They create car audio products.

Or does anyone have any thoughst on what it was like? It'll be my first year.
 
Wear comfy shoes.

I mean shoes that you can walk allllll day in and not think to yourself "Damn, should have brought comfy shoes." It's not about fashion it's about comfort. Did I say you should wear comfy shoes?

You'll have a helluva good time.

Usually first timers have an unreal time because there are so many things to do ... especially if you haven't been to Vegas before. There's lots of schwag around last time I was there. Free magazines etc ... and you'll be carrying all that crap in the heavy duty logo'd plastic bags that you can get from any vendor. That's one way to ident a CES noob. 😀

Also, eat decent food. The cheap buffets you'll probably try out but you will soon tire of them real quick. Also bring some bottled water with you because it's dry there and even though it's January it's still 15-18 Celsius at times. The water there is very "hard" - mineraly and it's a real pain to even brush your teeth and rinse because it's so gross. If you buy bottled water it will cost you. Even the carbonated pop tastes funny because of the hard water.

Also check out the Adult Convention usually held at the Hilton coinciding with CES. It's something else. Adult themed. Really Adult themed.

Sounds like his grandparent's business is Autotek. Either own it or run it.

WCES is industry-only and to go there you're supposed to be part of the industry - either work or sponsored by a company to participate. Since he's related the company will just register him up in a generic role like "designer/developer" or something like that.
 
Yeah, it's their business. They own it. Started 30 or so years ago.

BTW, how old do you have to be to attend the Adult Convention?
 
Ahhh ... I don't think they actually check for age. I was maybe 21 when I went to my first WCES and they never checked me FWIW.

It's really an eyeopener for sure. A good experience to do at least once. If you aren't into the thought of checking out a porn convention ... then stay away because it's all that you think it is and then some.

Just don't do what I did.

You see, you can pick up free heavy duty plastic carrying bags for all your freebies, mags, flyers, promos etc. Usually they all have huge colorful logos on 'em to make it worth their while. I picked up one from the Adult Convention to carry around some of the "flyers" that I picked up there. Wow, I though I was gonna get arrested walking out of the Hilton with them the material was so over the top.

Anyways, the plastic bag I got had some huge logo of an adult vid company. Like Vivid Video or something like that. I didn't really think much about it at that time. I walked around the high-end audio exhibits with this bag and I was getting funny looks here and there because they all knew where I had previously been. In hindsight I should have chosen another bag. 😀

Hey, if you have these connections you should definitely use them to get introduced to the product showgirls and get a date or something! You've never seen so much silicon short of a strip bar.

Keep also in mind that when Vegas is totally full like it is for WCES weekend then you're gonna have to wait for seating for eating and such. You may want to change your eating times to reflect this. Not much sucks more than having to wait for food when you're hungry.

Damn, I'm gonna have a sh1tload of free stuff!
