Anyone going to the University of Michigan next year?

...besides me? :)

I got my summmer orientation stuff in the mail yesterday and they let you do everything on their website - choose your uniqname (email address), kerberos password, and your orientation dates. The coolest part is that your email address is active as soon as you register, so I can start getting email at my @umich.edu email address right now! And, the best part - with a uniqname, I can get all those cheap software programs starting now!

PM me if you're going to UM next year, and I'll tell you what dates my orientation is.

No way! You actually got in to umich as a Michigan resident? That's virtually unheard of!! I ended up having to go to Purdue (and I love it here) because U of M didn't want me. Granted, there were probably some other things that weren't in my favor, but I get the feeling that if just my grades stayed the same and all of my demographics changed, I would have gotten in. I'm not terribly fond of that school. Not that it's a bad one though. :)

It doesn't really hurt that I go to one of the biggest 'feeder' high schools for Michigan in the state (Pioneer HS, Ann Arbor). We've got something like 50-60 kids going to UM next year. Someone I know quite well, even, turned down YALE to go to the U of M. She visited New Haven and just thought that it wasn't for her.

Her leaving Yale is going to make some kid on the waitlist VERY happy. :)

I am going to Michigan Tech right now, and I am going to Michigan State next year. I didn't apply but one of the reps told me I would definitely get in. It doesn't seem that hard to get in to UofM.

A first grade teacher explains to her class that she is a Michigan Wolverine. She asks her students to raise their hands if they were Wolverines too. No one really knowing what a Michigan Wolverine was but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands explode into the air like fleshy fireworks. There is, however, one exception. A girl named Kristen has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different.
"Because I'm not a Wolverine."
Then, asks the teacher, what are you?
"Why, I'm a proud Ohio State Buckeye", boasts the little girl.
The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Kristen why she is a rebel.
"Well, my mom and dad are Buckeyes, so I'm a Buckeye too."
The teacher is now angry. "That's no reason," she says loudly. "What if your mom was a moron, and your dad was a moron. What would you be then?"
A pause, and a smile. "Then," says Kristen, "I'd be a Wolverine."

ZV <-- You mean that state up North has a college in it? :p

EDIT: Clarity, and to add the following:

In Old Ohio there's a team,
That's known throughout the land;
Eleven warriors, brave and bold,
Whose fame will ever stand,
And when the ball goes over,
Our cheers will reach the sky,
Ohio Field will hear again
The Buckeye Battle Cry.
Drive! Drive on down the field,
Men of scarlet and gray;
Don't let them through that line,
We have to win this game today,
Come on, Ohio! Smash through to victory
We cheer you as you go;
Our honor defend
So, we'll fight to the end
For Ohio.

Funny funny - well, we shall see at the OSU-UM game this year, shall we?

Yeah, UM's not that hard to get into from in-state. Almost everyone I know who applied got in (except my girlfriend grrrr....)

Yeah, maybe this year that team up North will actually be able to score in the first half. ;)

I'll be going next year....for my 3rd year. ;) Good to have you along! I didn't know they let the freshman register everything on the site now, two years ago when I went through orientation, we still did everything in a computer lab when we were there!

Coming from Pioneer, I'm sure you know the place well.......there's a couple of ATers I know, all my friends from HS. Where're you living?

And as for the comment of UM being empty next year......right. ;)

Maybe I'll see you at an end-of-the-year party this weekend? What're you studying, BTW? latez.

Then I have to ask....why the hell are you going to Michigan tech? Its campus sucks and its academics aren't as good. U-M ain't easy to get in...even for residents. My bro had a 3.9 /1400 and got rejected, and he came out of one of the most competetive schools in the state (recognized by Umich as that too).

Nope. I'm not going to UM next year. It would be a bit hard on my family if I was to just pick up and go off to Michigan. My wife would probably divorce me and take everything I have. But, then again, who the hell wants to live in Michigan?

I'm going to U of M next year. Got accepted to there from Colorado, from a small private school (Lutheran HS).

<< Which school did you bro go to Mani? Avondale, DCDS, Brother Rice? Just curious. >>

<< Which school was that anyway? >>

Okemos. Everyone thinks its a farmboy school since the surrounding suburbs are that way but it's just another upper class 'burb with lots of money and an insanely funded school system. When I talked to an engineering admissions counselor before I attended, she told me that behind DCD, it's got the most "points" added to students in the admissions process.
