I'm curious if they'll have their 4TB or 5TB drives. Rumor has it they were to release some 3.5" 4TB and 5TB hybrid drives this year.

5tb hybrid dear god yes.

You went to the booth and saw them? Did they give an estimated release date? I think it was originally February but I would imagine now due to the flood it is delayed.

I don't think the flood should necessarily impact new releases. Drive design centers and R&D are not in Thailand. misc components may be impacted, but at pre-release development stage, the need for those should be pretty low.

I couldn't say. I would imagine some of the parts they use from their many suppliers would be common between old and the new hybrid drives. I was just hoping for any info - 2 months or 8 months, just some timeline as I really need some new larger drives.

if you need larger drives, you should look into a NAS. I worked for 5-6 years with a 4 bay tower and I kept swapping drives out for newer ones. 320gb => 640gb => 1TB => 1.5TB => 2TB. It's a waste when you think about it. So finally I said screw that and built a NAS. LOL. Too bad the Thailand flood hit halfway through and I only have 6 drives instead of 10.

I'll probably build an array in time. When I rip all my movies, I estimate it will take 30 TB of storage so I'm still waiting for larger drives before I build my array as the noise from so many drives would be distracting.
