are any of you going to get the new ipod touch? do you think the improvements over the previous version make it worth getting?
 
I'm not getting one as I own an iPhone 4, but I think its quite a big leap from the previous generation.

You're essentially getting an iPhone4 without a contract and phone capabilities. The other draw back is that it doesn't have a 5mp camera.
 
I ordered 3. One 32 gig version for my daughter. Two 8 gig version to send to my wife's family overseas. We plan to use Facetime to video chat.
 
No ipods on the horizon for me (or Zune's or anything else). Can't justify buying another device that does the same thing my phone does. Yes, it has it's advantages, longer battery life as a dedicated PMP, apple store, etc. But it's too expensive for just that.
If I had a dumbphone, or a work BB, the ipod would be a perfect compliment.
 
Yes. I'll be getting it. I'm a current Android user and I have no intention of switching to the iPhone 4.

I also used to use the iPod Touch 1G until last August. I thought the 3rd gen would get the camera so I sold my iPod Touch. Big mistake. I miss that device.

I'll get the 4th gen iPod Touch as long as I know it can be jailbroken. So I'm not gonna get it on the release day.... well hell I should just get it right? Might as well have an iPod while I wait for the JB? 😀

Edit: I'll wait a bit for the cool incase stuff to come out. I've always liked their slider cases or other cases in general. The iPhone 4 case they have is amazing.

Anyway, I'm tired of subpar apps and crappy games on Android. I'll go for the iPod Touch for this reason. Also, I'll have something to blast on my radio without worrying about my battery and worrying whether I can have internet a few hours later because my phone died trying to stream radio on the road...

Furthermore, I feel like the better battery, speakerphone (IPT 1G did not have this), FaceTime, better screen make this device worth it already. It's less justifiable if you have the iPod Touch 3G 32/64gb which already have the 3GS processor inside, but I think if you have the 8gb or a 2nd Gen or older iPod Touch this is very much worth it.

Which SE phone was a Walkman phone with US 3G? The only phone with US 3G that I can think of was the K850 which came out in early 07, and that's not a Walkman phone is it? A few months before the iPhone 2G. Oh wait nm... the beginning of 3G for the US seems to be the iPhone 3G. Though I believe the Touch Diamond could do it too, but when the US really cared about 3G was post iPhone 3G.

I was going to get one but I already have an iPad I use alongside my Droid X.

Maybe I'll buy one anyway.
 
There maybe some things the new iTouch can do that my first gen iTouch and Evo can not but why would I downgrade from a 4.3 inch screen?

I'm really on the fence about what to do as I had one on order, but canceled it yesterday.. First and foremost I want at least 32GB of space to keep the majority of my music with me. Second, my cars stereo integrates with the iDevices very well (coverflow, Bluetooth for phone, etc). Third, I really don't want to carry another device that has very similar functionality to my Android phone. Seems as if my best option may just be getting an iPhone 4 though I'm not sure how I feel about leaving Verizon.
 
Nope. I have my phone and my 4G Ipod for when I need to take a bunch of music with me. Games on the Droid are good enough if I need to kill a little time. Lately, I find myself using my nook as opposed to the DS if I need to kill a bunch of time.
 
Hell no. My vibrant is better, IMO, for sound quality. Plus, I still have my ipod classic 160gb for bulk music. But the lack of a real EQ on any i product just sucks. My vibrant has presets, 5.1 fake surround and 10 band eq and sounds pretty damn good.
 
nopes. I use a shuffle in my workouts and use one of the music players on my N1 on the way to work (on the train).
 
Nah. It looks nice, but between whatever smartphone-of-the-week I have (currently the Epic) & my Zune HD I have no need for a new PMP.

What's your audio equipment you're listening with? I saw the Galaxy S reviews and the response charts. Also looked at the distortion data and it was god awful. Shrug. I haven't seen any phone really wow me in terms of SQ except maybe the Nokia 5800.

Yup good ol K850i with 3G and a forward facing camera for video calls waaay before the iPhone 4 had it. Back at that point Sony loaded the same music software onto their kamera line as they did with their walkman line. The only thing that was missing was the branding of the name walkman. Everything else worked just like it =)

I don't understand why anyone would own both a smartphone AND an iPod Touch. The Touch is basically a smartphone minus the phone so you don't have to pay a monthly fee. Seems like a great option if you have a dumbphone though.

You would own a smartphone with the iPod Touch if you feel like you need the iOS apps but with a non iPhone. Plus, if I tether my iPod Touch, isn't it effectively an iPhone now minus the calls? I can go online on the go.

Seems like a lot of work to go through to get a couple unique iOS features. I'm willing to get that you are more of the exception that the rule in needing both.

This doesn't make sense for 99.999999999999999% of the people out there. Having a smartphone and something like a regular iPod or any other MP3 player makes more sense since a separate media player will usually have better audio quality, play more formats, and have better battery life so you don't have to waste your phone's battery.
