Anyone going to Cal Poly SLO, question?

what? i don't believe that 120 figure either. it's like the ucla letters "43,000 applied for 4300 spots." it's actually 11,000 spots. they KNOW a lot of people aren't going to choose the school but they choose the number of students that actually enroll so you won't feel as bad when you get rejected.

are you serious? sucks, because one of my cousins got a rejection letter from UCLA just yesterday. we were almost sure she would get in. her SAT wasnt really high, but it was decent. 1390, with around 4.1 GPA. guess like competition was too tough.

my other cuz on the other hand, got accepted. we were expecting that too. 1520 SAT, and 4.4 GPA. hes still waiting on berkley and HOPING to get into MIT (unlikely) and he got rejected from stanford already. looks like competition is real tough nowadays.

mcd, cal poly is definately not harder to get into than UCB- perhaps only under special circumstances.

I made it in as a Computer Engineering (CPE) major w/ a 1290 SAT and 3.8 GPA.

Well... while we're on topic I have some questions for other prospecive SLO students (I was gonna ask my counsler next week).
1. I got an email about sending in a copy of my "confirmaiton letter" for national merit finalist or whatever. here What do they want me to send??

2. And the honors program. What exactly is this?? honors email

I'm at Cal Poly right now. I got in to EE last year with a 3.7 GPA and a 1280 SAT. CS is impacted more than EE, so it may very well be harder to get into CS here than UCB.

It actually isn't too hard to live on campus past your freshmen year, especially because this fall they are opening up a nice apartment dorm with 800 beds. It's just that no one really wants to stay mainly because of the dry campus policy. They also say they are going to start building a dorm complex with another 2600 beds this fall that will be finished in the fall of 2006. Also, don't bother trying to buy a house to rent out, the rent you could collect would not pay off the mortgage because real estate is very expensive. I actually will be living on campus again next year, so it isn't that hard. This year there were even openings the first week of school. However, two years ago they let in way too many freshmen and some people even ended up living in the Ramada down the street.

If you have any more questions, I'll be happy to answer them. I'll PM my sn if you like.

Maybe I should apply to SLO for EE then go over to CS? I figure a good majority of the classes I'll be taking for CS overlap with EE.

i got rejected from slo... thought i had a better chance, for poly sci with a 3.9 and a 1290, oh well... got into davis so i at least have something...

something interesting is going to princeton review and checking on school's selectivity rating... cal poly slo is rated at an 85/100, while UCSD is an 83... sort of puts it into perspective; cal poly is no cake walk by any standards.

I actually wouldn't recommend it. You don't really have too much more of an advantage to get into CSC even if you already go to Cal Poly. Also, even as a freshmen, the classes aren't very similar. Here's a link to the CPE, CSC, and EE flowcharts.

Now I have something to brag about to my friends at UCSD. 🙂

Actually, it really depends on the department with EE or CSC because I didn't get into EE at UCSD. Although, I only applied to UCSD because my parents wanted me to have the option of staying in San Diego, which I didn't want to do. Honestly though, it is still hard to believe that Cal Poly is more selective than UCSD and that the acedemic rating for the two is the same.

You should look into the new Software Eng. major they are going to offer. A nephew of mine goes there and it sounded like that's the way to go now if you are doing CS related. Apparently the professor that's starting that major plans to accept a very low figure next year with an interview process. You end up making more money as a designer than a developer anyway.
