I just found out that I was accepted here and was wondering if anyone here goes/went there. What are your opinions of it?

PM Stojakapimp. He's in his 4th year down there. I think he likes it a lot. However, I also think he is down doing some charity work in Mexico for spring break.

in terms of academics, it ranks up there with ucla and berkeley. but if you got into one of the latter schools, go there first before ucsd.

I got in last year but they signed me up for classes I could take at a community college and so I decided one more year at th CC and so applied again, I haven't checked to see if I was accepted or not yet.

Oh, BTW: I have heard it is an excellent school (especially their medical, computer science, and engineering departments). What are you majoring in?

So are you saying that I should go to a crappier school undergrad then go to UCSD for grad?

I'll be going to Muir if I choose UCSD (which I most likely will) and I'd like to hear more about it.

Thanks, always appreciated. ;)

I graduated from there, along with a few of my coworkers. Yeah, unfortunately I am that old.

Muir is currently (and has been for awhile) the most difficult college to get in at UCSD. The reason is because of the general education requirements. The key to Muir is freedom & flexibility. It has the least GE requirements, so you can get started working on your major earlier (much MUCH earlier compared with some of the others). This gives you a serious leg up, IF you are reasonably confident you know what you want to do. GE requirements do help some people decide what they like and don't like, so they're a 2-edged sword. I personally changed my major in the 2nd quarter of my junior year (from Bio-medical engineering to Econ), and still graduated in 4 years. :) It's a big plus in some ways. BTW, when you're applying to engineering, sometimes you'll hear back from that department before the general UCSD acceptance.

You can read some of the differences here:

Here is some general UCSD admissions info:

Oh yeah, one other thing. If you're living in the dorms, be sure to request an ocean view... always nice to have.

Graduated from there in '03. Warren College is by far the best because it requires the least GEs. Though Marshall College has probably the best social life. Computer Science and Engineering are great there.

Again, PM Stojakapimp in about a week when he's back. He goes to Muir.

Major in Econ go figure :).

I actually got accepted into Muir last year but for reasons I explained above I felt it would be better to wait one more year. I just hope I didn't ruin my chances.

Close. As I understand it:

In terms of quarters:

Muir:

http://provost.ucsd.edu/muir/advising/geover.html

1 social science
1 mathematical or natural science sequence
2 fine arts, humanities, or foreign languages
2 expository writing courses
TOTAL: 6 (up to 3 may overlap your major)

Warren:

http://warren.ucsd.edu/advising_office/ge_req.php

2 writing
2 calculus, symbolic logic, computer programming and/or statistics
1 ethics & society
6 Program of Concentration, Area Studies, or Departmental minor
1 cultural diversity
TOTAL: 12 (up to 4 may overlap your major)

ewww 6th lol. From my impression of them, they're just a bunch of wannabe leftist elitists.

They'll make a distorted trashcan and call it art. They'll gather around it w/ their hands on their chins, heads tilted and start saying "oh yes, this is a very powerful expression of losing innocence, and yes, it interprets the problems of our society soo well.."

hehe, I guess you saved the trouble of meeting those kinds of people.
