Do you have PC Internet Clubs in your area?

I am in one right now. Theres about 100+ workstations on a T-1 internet line. All the computers are Pentium 4's with 19" or 21" monitors.

About 30-40 guys are playing games in one room and there's a couple of 'quiet' rooms for us 'older' guys.... this place is pretty cool. Cost is $2 per hour.

Just watch out for kiddies outside the place with sharp objects in their hands. Impaling some geeks head right after playing CS seems to be a favorite activity around Internet Cafes.

Edit: sorry Neuro, I guess the winky wasn't appropriate.

I once found a card for one of those....it was sort of like Dave and Busters. You'd charge a card with so many credits or so much time...then you'd swipe the card and it would allow you to use the computer for the time on your card. Cool stuff. In 1996 one of these places popped up in my hometown. They were an ISP and decided to offer those services...so they started serving coffee and cheesecakes and such and had the whole internet bistro type thing going on. Good idea, but the primary market would have to be in a business oriented or "downtown" atmosphere. There's no market for it anywhere else...kids don't have the money to spend their allowance on something their parents will pay for at home.

If you're referring to that incident at PC Cafe in Garden Grove, that was my neighbor/cousin's friend :(

PC Cafe's are played out. They were cool when they first started popping up, but it's over now. Nowadays it's a bunch of Asian'ed out gangsters and crap playing CS, yelling at their friends where other people are and doing other lame crap. It's a bunch of 10 year old kids saving up enough lunch money to whore themselves at the PC Cafe after school.

I'd rather stay at home and play in the comfort of my room, rather than be in a hot stuffy room with 29 other guys.

This is the situation in So Cali, don't know if it's the same anywhere else

I haven't been to a local internet cafe since The Habit closed it's doors a few years ago :(

When I visited Sydney, Australia last August there were CyberCafe's on every block (I'm not kidding), so it was easy to duck in check e-mail then leave ...

He was the one killed. I didn't know him personally though, I've seen him around a few times but nothing much. My cousin and my neighbor were really close to him though, so it kinda sucks for them.

By the way, it's cool, don't worry, I make jokes about this incident all the time.

here's a recent article:

Garden Grove sets cybercafe rules
Officials curtail hours and require security cameras in hopes of reducing violence at the popular youth hangouts.

January 23, 2002

By KATHERINE NGUYEN
The Orange County Register

GARDEN GROVE -- No new cybercafes will be allowed to open in the city for 45 days, and the 21 existing ones have 90 days to comply with new temporary regulations approved by the City Council on Tuesday night.

City planners will develop permanent regulations after studying land-use and zoning laws.

Under the interim ordinance, cybercafes can be open from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m., and security cameras must be installed. No minors will be allowed during school hours or after 8 p.m. on school nights. On weekends, minors can stay until 10 p.m. Some of the cafes had stayed open until 4 a.m.

City Manager George Tindall said planners have been developing regulations since 13 of these modern arcades opened in the city last year.

In two years, cybercafes have become a sensation among Southern California teens who go to play combat video games such as "Counterstrike" on computers for $2 an hour.

Recent violent incidents outside cybercafes - including one stabbing death and other assaults - sparked action from officials.

"The real purpose (of the regulations) is to provide more control over these businesses and protection for the clients," Tindall said.

Many of the cybercafe owners who attended the council meeting said they wouldn't mind installing security cameras and hiring security guards during peak hours.

City Council members scrapped a plan to require the cafes to close at midnight after several owners said that would kill their business, which thrives late at night.

"We have a lot of customers who want to play beyond midnight, and they have a right to do so," said Huy Le, owner of Cyberstation.

Tindall said city officials have placed regulations on other businesses such as coffeehouses and pool halls for being at the center of similar problems, including after- hours loitering and fights.

well, pc arcades (as I call them) are pretty cool, when NO Broadband is available to you. and your house is too small for a LAN party....
but you're right, there are way too many little kids just being retarded and cheating.

I go there sometimes after school with friends. I mostly just like playing at home cause I'm a lot better with my keyboard/mouse.
