The consensus is that the recent chips are not going over 2.6Ghz. Most can't even go over 2.3Ghz. Has any one recently got lucky with one that is later than week 51 overclock higher than 2.5Ghz?
I want to get one from Monarch, it's only $129 right now.

Thanks.

Got one to go to 2.2ghz no problem on a GA-K8NF-9 and xp-90. May have gone higher but I felt that was more than good for now.

$129 is a great price for the performance of this chip. 2.2ghz is 3500+ speeds

I am ok now with the P4C 2.4Ghz, 30caps @3.0Ghz. I can't for the life of me get it to run past 3.0Ghz. I know the previous own ran it much higher. I can't even go 1mhz above 3.0Ghz. So I am frustrate and thinking of switching to A64.
Thanks.

So I can you tell me where you bought the chip from? Is it OEM or retail?
Thanks.

where did you hear this about newer winnies performing less. personally I think its rumors and like always some chips perform better then others. amd isnt going to rehash their production model because their chips are too good at overclocking, so I would assume you still have the same chance with any week to get a monster. and from what ive seen 90% of winchesters can acheive 2.4 - 2.5 I say for 129 roll the dice you wont be dissapointed either way

It's a luck of the draw, wherever he got it from, and whether is was OEM or retail would make no difference. It just looks like he got lucky and got a good chip.

I personally tested 2 recent production chips that turned out to be duds (by my standards anyways) until I found an older one that is just awesome. I think the good ones arent getting binned down into the lower speed grades. Yields must be good so they reduce prices on the higher speed ones..

They wouldn't have to rehash it. Better binning means they sell the good ones as 3500s and the bad ones as 3000s

Well, if you got in January, it's more likely produced in 2004, which is known to be awesome overclocker. But the problem is the recent weeks, i.e 0504, which is known to be the worst of all.

Nice :). You are the one of few people I've heard who went above 2.4G barrier with 2005 Winnies.

I wonder if they started playing with somethings (ie rumored rev Es maynot work in all NF3/4 mobos) and these are some of the results....

I'm running....

3000+ Winnie @2574 (286X9)
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
Corsair TCCD 2-2-2-5
Bios 1004 (very important) update the bios here cause I couldn't reach 2 GHz stable in the original bios
A lot of this also has to do with ram and mobo.

I just picked one up, a 3000+ Winnie date 0450, CBBHD. It was the last one they had in stock. I'm gonna see if I have time to install it tonight and I'll be able to report back..

That's why I decided to jump on a Winnie now, because I wanted to hold out for a Venice but I REALLY don't want to replace my motherboard anytime soon, I just got finished building this thing....

Since my goal was 2.4 to 2.5 Gig I tried 266x9 with HTT x3, RAM using divider of 100 with Vdimm 2.8 and Vcore 1.55 and Prime fails immediately.
Prime failed 250x9 after 2.5 hours with 4xHTT, RAM 166 Vdim 2.6 Vcore 1.475. However Prime is still going after 11 hours at Vcore 1.50 and 100 RAM divider.
Have to figure out if the RAM speed lowered help or the higher Vcore :)
