Anyone go from an 8800 GTS 640 to a 3870?

Just wondering your thoughts on the move. I sold my GTS on the bay and have an ATI 3870 coming in, hopefully soon.


I would think the 3870 should offer a performance increase as well as a little visual upgrade. It also gives me the opportunity to go crossfire later on.

Well I can't speak from experience, but in general I would expect it to be slightly faster than your GTS 640MB. The HD 2900XT was usually a bit faster than the GTS, and the 3870 is slightly faster than the 2900XT.

You won't notice anything dramatic. 1 or 2 fps here or there or not even.

Not expecting a world of difference, but it does allow me a path to go to a 3870 x2 along with the 3870 down the road.

I don't think you made the right choice. HD3870 is at best a side-grade. http://www.tomshardware.com/20...gts_512_mb/page14.html You should have gotten the 8800GT(S).

Why, I can't do sli on my motherboard. If I was going to stay with a single card I would have gotten the GTS G92 hands down, but it doens't allow me to do multiple cards down the road.
