It's impossible to search over at the official site, horrible search engine. I know they are working on it, but man it's pretty slow. I'm no n00b when it comes to getting stuff working, but this thing runs slow on my system.

GF4 Ti4400 (295/670)
P4 2.4GHZ (150fsb (1.6a))
1gig Samsung PC2700 (max timings)
P4B266-C

1600x1200 with everything maxed, I get 15-18 when I'm overlooking the water at the very begining (right before you choose your race). Even in 640X480, no shadows, shortest distance, I get about 28. That just doesn't seem right. Is this just an engine limitation or have I overlooked something? I couldn't find anything off hand.

there is a no-cd patch that supposedly fixes this issue. Apparently Morrowind uses a SafeDisc 2 implementation that checks the cd every so often to see if there is one there which decreases performance .. This really should have been fixed at beta time, I think .. but people report that this fixes the issue .. good luck ..

It's not. I have a similar system and see 35-60 fps (measured using fraps) when looking around after going on deck for the first time. This is with no shadows and every other setting at default (about 1/2 way save AI distance). Oops, forgot to mention the res: it's 1280 for me.

The safedisc patch boosted performance by 6 fps or so. Be sure to enable the pixel/vertex shader, too.

Patched exe does not resolve the problem but it does speed up load times and slightly increase fps. The game is half baked like most are these days and has a massive memory leak and other issues but is still a good game and once its patched will be fantastic hopefully for all.

Just a reminder this IS an RPG and NOT a Quake III clone. You won't get 100fps in this game no matter how hard you try. No insult intended, but it seems to me that alot of people on the Morrowind forum are thinking they should get the same FPS as they do in Quake III. I also heard that the Lithtech Engine they used also could be the reason for the low FPS, not sure about that. As far as a memory leak, I haven't heard that meantioned in the Morrowind forum. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought a memory leak meant that the game slowed down the more you play it, like in Heroes Of Might and Magic IV. I've been playing Morrowind on my crappy 466 Celeron with 128mb of RAM and a 64mb GForce2MX. While it doesn't run very good, I have yet to see it slow down or get worse the longer I play it.

Morrowind does not use the Lithtech engine. It uses the NetImersion engine, same as DAOC.

And the fact that guys with Geforce4's are getting the same framerates as guys with Geforce2's tells us that something is definitely wrong.

Alright so I can't keep game engines straight. :D I really think though that the problem is more the engine they used plus the fact that this is an RPG and that you don't need 100 fps to play or will you get 100 fps playing it. It's not a hack and slash kind of game so getting 20-30 fps in the city is fine with me as long as it doesn't lag. Once I get my new computer built I'll be able to see for myself how it works. Right now I'm going on what I've heard from different people on the forum and I think the majority of them aren't complaining too much about the FPS.

MW also does a lot more than a typical FSP game (more objects in the world, funky water, curved surfaces everything, heck even the sky is alive. If you stuck to 90 degree curves, took out the objects, used a static bitmap for the sky, etc. you could achieve 100+ fps plus. But then the game wouldn't be MW.

On my system(look below) there is a bout a 6fps difference between 1024x768 and 1600x1200 so something is definatley amiss. Even when I turn down the distance and PS I get a bout 3 more fps. I can't imagine this game on a system that is half the speed as mine. It is an incredible game though and when it gets fixed it'll be even better. As for needing 100fps,you're right, but the game shouldn't stall and then have to catch up when I turn my head to look around sometimes. No setting can completely stop that. Yes I have the CD crack as well.

You're definately right when you say something is wrong. Although I only run the game at 1280x960, my system cranks out much higher fps than yours currently is (40-60 fps). I know this didn't help, but don't accept <20 fps.
