Anyone get to read the NV35 review? I couldn't get in.

what I think is WEIRD is how Id let the Doom3 benchmark out just for Nvidia. Is it payback for the ATI Doom3 leak and has Nvidia had more time with the final D3 build to tweak drivers? Makes me wonder...

There are a few different factors here I think. One is that there were two boards released, the new R9800Pro and the NV35. Saying that it was released for nVidia somewhat ignores the ATi part that launched. Another issue is that E3 starts today. id got themselves a nice round of press and everyone is talking about the game prior to the opening of the biggest gaming show in the world. Doom3 is looking a lot better on the nV boards right now, and HL2 is showing up at ATi's booth for E3. Add it all together and recall ATi's leak of the D3 build from last years E3 and I'm not particularly suprised.

Old Fart:
"Finally good AF performance and quality, no ridiculous dustbuster cooling requirement. "
nV30s are still noisey, but I think their driver issues with AF are fixed as well.

finally, NVIDA is back on their game. their performance was an absolute disgrace for a very long time. sure, they were working on nforce2, but that's not a valid excuse. it's good to see the 50-100% domination in some benchies. good stuff nvidia......i thought you were doomed for a while there :p

500 dollars? I'm not paying that much to play Doom 3 thank you very much, lol! Even though I'm turning into a hardware buff and I actually have the money for such a card...

I'm still not bill gates and I still want to spend money with a purpose.

The question is how long I can wait before I have to switch over to a DX9 card like the NV35 or ATI 9800. I'm hoping long enough for the price to drop.

Yes the new 5600 Ultra would look mighty good for my next purchase. Unfortunately I just bought an ATI Radeon 9700 non pro not too long ago. I KNEW I should have waited. But ATI got my money anyway. I will never doubt nvidia again. Everyone makes mistakes. I think I will pick up the "value version" of the 5900 when it becomes available depending on the price.

I don't know what you're worried about! The 9700 smoked the new 5600 Ultra all times but one. Enjoy your performance... don't downgrade and get the 5600!!
If you go to the lower-clocked 5900 and want to sell your 9700NP for a song you just give me a call. ;)

Finally read the whole article. Wow.... Good job nVidia! That's picking up the slack... some really impressive numbers, but what REALLY impressed me was their concerns for quality. That's enough to make me switch! Fast AND pretty! I won't settle for anything less!

Of course, my Shuttle box doesn't have two slots so I'll have to wait for a cheaper, cooler, lower-power, SINGLE slot version. I might still be leaning to the 9600 for this one....

Your shuttle only has a 200 watt PSU max, isn't that right?
If so, I really dont think it will have enough juice to run any of these new cards (ATI or Nvidia) reliably.
I think that they recommend a 300 watt PSU minimum for stability.

Oh and I wont be going for the 5600. I only meant that if I didn't purchase the 9700, I would probably gone with the new 5600 Ultra. I would love to see what a 5900 overclocked could do. Maybe get it up to 500MHz core and 950 memory.. Sweeeet....

Most people are on a power-supply kick. "More is better". Many, many Shuttle owners run high-end processors and video cards like 9700's and TI4600's with no issues.
A Good-Quality PS is more important than being 697.3 Watts or something.

I still remember the XT/AT days... someone actually used the ad campaign;
"Forget about speed, you want POWER!! Our PC's have a 200W power supply vs. the competition's 100W!!"
*actual wattages uncertain.

It was stupid and most people knew it. :)

Yah, I would definately want clean power instead of just more power. If a 9500/9700/FX works in your shuttle without issue, that's great. Good news for people who want to shrink their PC size down to a shoebox. I have the Shuttle SS50 with a 160 watt PSU. I don't know about you, but mine is loud as hell. There is the power supply fan, case fan and CPU fan. Sounds like an ElectrLux vacuum cleaner. Do you know of any mods to quiet it down short of putting it in another room?

Thanks,
