Since the original thread was locked, thought I would start something here...

Anyway, Provantage had the PNY 6800GT on there site for $339, but out of stock, and took a bunch of orders.... then they bumped the price to like $435 or something, essentially cancelling most of the orders.... Then they sent an email saying they would honor the original price of $339... I got back in on it, but haven't heard anything... anyone got any news on this?

I was one of the very few who got in on the original deal - before they jacked up the price and then later stated they'd honor the old orders.

I think I got lucky and mine was shipped from a warehouse before "PNY increased their prices" (which I don't believe for a minute either).

I called provantage about my order status and they told me it is still backordered and that they "hope" they will receive shipments on the last week of august. This thing is driving me nuts im using my old comp and running on an intel integrated ( extreme o_O) BS video card. I hope they are not toying with us once more again. I thought shipments were to be ecpected on 8/20?

hmmm... let's see - pny increased the price by $100, so they were charging provantage more than retail msrp, while still continuing to sell for 399 msrp on their website, and in the national retailers (best buy, compusa) - yes, that makes sense, what retailer would order from pny if it costs them more than msrp ?
obviously this story makes no sense at all. The simple explanation is that provantage figured out the the going rate it ~450 for online retailers, so they raised their prices to that amount, but then they went an extra step and try to change the price for the orders they already took.

I still havent gotten my 6800gt from these guys with my order re-instated. I suspect we wont get it until the market price drops to this amount. I am curious if anyone who has ordered it for the $450 got one however.

8/20 was the date I was told as well...

I was also told 8/20 when I reinstated my order. Other companies have also reported 8/20 as the date they'll get these PNY cards in stock, so it's hopeful.

I was probably the first to reinstate my order and am also using a POS TNT 16MB video card on an old PIII Dell machine while I wait for that card so I can assemble my new computer. If it doesn't ship tomorrow, I'll view their reinstating of the orders more skeptically.

Reinstating the orders was just a PR move they made in order to save they reputation and avert the mess they were in, it's still basically a pos company, so I wouldn't expect to get the card anytime soon.
Hey, maybe pny decided to raise the price on them again......

It's always said that. I just called and the CSR said the ship date was still set for 8/20 and that they still expect them to ship by Monday.

umm...monday is 23rd, so what do yours mean by "ship date still set to 8/20" - this is obviously not right. And as for monday, I wouldn't count on it.

Paying more than $300 for a video card is no less stupid in my mind than paying $435 for one.

That's like saying "Paying more than $0 for a video card is no less stupid in my mind than paying $135 for one."

I called them just now and the basically told me that they took 94 orders for this item, and have recieved a total of 20 this entire time.

Oh, and btw, they also said that there was absolutely no way to tell where on the list my particular order is, and that the items are trickling in very slowly.

Gee, I wonder if they're going to put the $330 orders near the top of the list where they belong, or ship them AFTER all the $400+ orders on this list with no priority whatsoever.

I wound up cancelling my order yesterday... After all the hype of Doom 3 wore off, and my 9800 Pro seems to run it fine anyway, I decided it was just too much money for a graphics card.
