My friend works in a pretty big company and says he works 9 hour days and gets every other Friday off. Is this a normal practice in large corporations? I'd like to work for a company that gives me every other Friday off for better work/life balance. Anyone know which companies offer this?

I have flex time.

They don't come right out and say it, but we can pretty much make our own schedule as long as the projects get done and the hours get put in, and they're pretty flexible on the hours.

For example there's a guy that works 10-12 hour days, Wednesdays from home over VPN and takes every friday off. He's a programmer though, so he doesn't really have to be in the office much.

I have a lot of meetings, and support duties, many of which I can carry out over VPN, but being in the office makes me available to give mgmt warm and fuzzies. One thing I totally use flex time for is to avoid rush hour, that's pretty nice.

you can have the flex 9x80 or the 4x10. The 4x10 gives you every friday off.

See if your company offers that, i know the state of california does (my employer)

No. A 9-80 means you work 80 hours over 9 days.

Breaks down to 8 9-hour days and 1 8-hour day.

Usually you only work 8 hours on the first Friday and then get the following Friday off.

We have flex hours where you need to be in the office from 9 to 3:30 for meetings

How you get the rest of the hours does not matter as long as you get them.

I have been asking management to tighten down the policy because there are a ton of slackers.

My department (repair) seems to be the receptionist because no one can show up on time.
