This is a definite must get for me. I have a 360 wheel/stand, love racing games, and am a huge F1 fan. I'm only holding out because I have a b-day coming up, and wanted to see if it showed up as a gift before picking it up myself.

Its pretty good, kind of on the arcadey site but very polished. Almost on the level of DiRT2(menus, graphics, etc). I started a career right off the bat and cranked the difficulty to max. Spun out a few times, but by the end of the first track's practice sessions I was lapping mid-pack in my Lotus.
Its no Forza, unfortunately, that's just on a level all its own. But as the only F1 game we have its fantastic, and I'll definitely be playing it for the next couple weeks.

I only played this for about an hour last night and I'm stunned at the weathing effects! They're pretty amazing, especially when driving in the cockpit view.

I've seen some of the in-game footage and it looks amazing. Unfortunately I find F1 sims incredibly frustrating and not much fun, but that is largely due to my lack of skill. This game looks awesome if it's your thing.

The in-game views I've seen on youtube have been so much better than the trailers looked. I think I might pick it up to hold me over until GT5 comes out.

Be ready for a kinda boring bland ride.

Has none of the "awesome" presense of the Dirt and GRiD games...very dull and bland.

Don't feel bad if you pass this one up...you aren't really missing much...and I am a racing fan...G27 and all...LoOove racing games...but this, not so much.

just got the game yesterday and it is freakin awesome! It is really 'difficult' in the sense that the cars are so damn fast. I just got an hour in so I have get some more 'seat' time in. But it's a definite winner for me.

I am resisting the urge to do this :D

I suppose I can rationalize it cos there are no F1 cars in GT5 :hmm:

Picked this up today. I think played for about 5 hours before I finally put it down. It's quite awesome.

This is the first game I have played, console or PC, where it feels like a open wheel car.
Forza 3 comparisons are inevitable, so here is my take:

Mechanics/Controls: Both about a 9. In Forza, if the car class and speed allow it, you can easily place a car within a millimeter of where you want. In F1, the twitcheness and a never slow speed make precise movements extremely difficult. Both controls have a similar default button layout.

General Driving impressions: I give F1 a 9, and Forza 3 an 8.
In F1 2010, you feel an instant sense of communication between you and the game. If a mistake happens, there is little to blame it on. It feels so connected. In Forza 3, this is mostly true with a few exceptions. Some of the fictional tracks are weird, more on this in second. And the sensation of speed seems way off.

Tracks Variety: F1 2010 a 7, Forza 3 an 8. F1 is holding true to the season and realism. No fictional tracks, all painstakingly recreated. But since it's only sticking to one season, no variety. No past tracks, like Indy, Magny Cours, Jerez, San Marino, etc. And no old Hockenheim, or old Spa, just the new ones.
Forza 3 has quite a bit, with variations for each. Included are old circuits from historical and fictional tracks. For example they have LeMans pre-chicane. And they have a new and old version for the fictional New York track (fictional venue, correctly modeled streets and buildings). Now the fictional tracks are really bad in Forza 3. Most feel disconnected. Nobody thought of simple momentum transfer in a few of them. Especially that awful Sedona course. And an improbable location for a racetrack as well.

Graphics: Edge to F1 with a 9, Forza 3 with a 7. Forza 3 is showing some age. The cars are awesome. But stuff here and there aren't that great. Mountainsides take simple polygonal shapes and look distracting. It's so bad sometimes. Also some decals are blurred out, like if the image file was sized incorrectly. Lighting effects are much better in F1, really subtle and realistic. Each car is modeled and skinned with multiple textures. Too bad they are too fast to appreciate them entirely.
However, Forza 3 maintains a healthy 60fps I believe, so it's always smooth. F1 not so much, it can stutter a bit.

Realism: Undecided. There are tons going for each, and the same old nagging things that keep holding down from me ever calling these sims. But, these games get better and better every year.

Presentation: Both are a 9. I love the layouts and graphics in both. I love F1's British minimalism in graphic design and typography. It goes in line with F1's ultra clean paddock and garage facilities. I also love the Magazine cover or Poster style artwork for each event it Forza 3. Really thought out, and really nice touch.

Replay: Still up in the air. I would say both a 9. Forza 3 has a huge long career, plus you can switch it up and try different ways to a faster car. F1 is just a regular F1 season at a time. But they try to make up for it by recreating the career drama of a real time Grand Prix driver. So you have to deal with the agents, contracts, the press, etc. Not very in-depth, but it's the right amount balancing immersion and and avoiding routine annoyances that might plague it if that was more in depth.

I can't look past some of the game-breaking bugs that ruin career mode.

- Senna posting a qualifying time of 1:45 (24th) to my 1:40 (11th) -- the best times were around 1:38. During the race, due to the pit bug, Senna is now in 4th and posting 1:39 lap times. He finished 4th. He didn't pit and there's no way he dropped over 6 seconds during the race per lap compared to his qualifying time.

- Being held in the pit lane way, way too long. Dropping to near or completely last every time I pit.

- AI cars not pitting at all. Makes it impossible to regain any places lost due to pitting.

- Having cars "ghost" through me while I'm entering pit lane...essentially passing me.

These are just off the top of my head that I've personally experienced. Waste of time for me to play until a patch, if possible, fixes these issues.

They're working on a mega patch fortunately.
Hopefully it fixes a lot of that, that pit lane delay thing screwed me twice after racing almost an entire 100% race.
If the patch can fix that stuff, this is gonna be a fantastic game!

Although slamming on the brakes to stop from spinning is kinda wierd too, makes it very arcadey.

Besides the pit bugs the only thing that gets to me is the Engineer over radio saying my Lotus teammate is faster than me. I'm no. 6 in fastest lap times, and Trulli is well into the teens. Hopefully that funny logic doesn't affect the career play making it impossible to be the no. 1 driver. I want my mid season upgrades before him if I get more results.
Wow, I read that again....I sound like a whiny F1 brat. :)

It's almost a month since the game came out and the patch is still not out.

I wish they would release it soon.

There's a lot of stuff to fix! :)
And they only get one or two cracks at it with Microsoft, so they gotta put lots into each patch.
Go check out their forums, I can't get to it at work, but the patch post has a whole list of stuff they're fixing. If they pull it off, it'll fix everything and the game will be a gem.

I cannot get a rhythm down for Monaco in sector 3. So far I'm pretty comparable with lap times in the first 5 races. If I practice using a McLaren or RedBull, I can almost match some the best youtube uploaders on any other track. But I cannot even approach 1:13 that I saw earlier today with any car. Right now, I'm doing a 1:21 in the Lotus.
