So what did the doc call this type of migrane? I have the same problem, but it is my right eye.

edit: My gf gets migraines all the time. Usually imitrex pills (or needles if it's a bad one) will get her through, but sometimes she has to mix in pills of demoral. When that doesn't work, we go to the doctor for a mixture IV of demoral and dilotted.

Too bad if the migraine is on a weekend, or he's booked up that day. Most hospitals don't carry IV demoral anymore. ER co-pays suck anyway.

The most likely shot was Imitrex, which directly affects the serotonin allowing for cessation of the migraine but often has a bit of a high feeling. Current theory has changed the classification of migraines, and tension headaches to all be slight variations on the theme of pain feedback loops.

Narcotics are a double edged sword in that they stop the pain initially but do not stop the neurochemical activity of migraines. After they wear off the migraine may return and frequent use may lead to daily headaches.

Personnally I use the antinausea drug compazine which directly effects the nerves involved. Oral Imitrex works ok but at ~$20 a pill is too expensive to buy without a prescription plan.

Eh if you're high it was probably an opiate. My guess is demerol. I doubt they'd give you a shot of morphine for that plus I don't know if they IM that.

And yeah, sitting around talking with buddies is always a good time on opiates. :)

I've got prescription meds for my migraines as they're pure sanity.

And for what it's worth, Imitrex does nothing for me so if that is indeed what they gave you and it didn't work you wouldn't be the first. I heard it works better in women for some reason.

That's exactly the way my migraines were. Thankfully they're gone.
I had one when I went to a headache clinic once, and they gave me a shot of Toradol (which is similar to Iboprofen I believe) in the butt, but it didn't do anything for my headache. Of course, didn't get high on that either.

PS: note spelling: "migraine"

Yep, when Imitrex, etc. did happen to work, mine would often come back later.
Never tried compazine.

I used to get a shot of Demerol in the ass cheek every now and then for severe migranes and it pretty much numbs you from life in general.

Probably what you got too.
