I was going to post in the Ford thread but it devolved to a lot of bashing between truck and car lovers.
Labor Day weekend always seems like a big sale weekend for car dealers because next year's models are (usually) available so there's overlap. The other thread pointed out that Ford dealers were offering huge discounts of up to $17k for trucks and $12k for Mustang GTs (2010, not 2011).
Anyone get in on those deals or deals from any other makes? I saw deals for Miatas starting at $19k and Mazdaspeed 3 starting at $20k. Volvo C30 starting at $20k and Volvo S80 starting at $32k (a full $10k off).
Besides the usual trick of there being limited (or a single) unit at the advertised price, the other thing is that often the "discount" is tiered and you have to qualify for all the individual discounts to be able to actually get the advertised discount. For instance the $10k off the Volvo S80 was something like a straight $7k discount, plus $2k off if you are NOT financing directly through Volvo (one of those low APR OR cashback deals) and $1k owner loyalty (if you are a current registered owner of a Volvo).
I test drove several vehicles. Didn't test the Hyundai Genesis Coupe but those guys were super busy. The Volvo C30 was actually pretty fun to drive. The S80 was really plush but a bit "soft" in performance for my tastes, though that made my mom almost buy it.
