I had to have two teeth pulled and it turns out that I can't get the dental implants I wanted.
So I have to have a fixed bridge.
My question is will they be able to take an impression and have the bridge made when I come in for it to be installed. (in other words they would then file down the teeth on either side AFTER the permanent bridge has been made)
Or will I have to have the teeth on either side filed down first, then have an impression made, then wear a temporary til the permanent is made?
I hear the plastic temporary bridges are a real pain and it can take 2-3 weeks for the permanent bridge to be made.

i had a temp bridge for a few weeks while the permanent was made

it was crap, but not as bad as having my caps fall off (before i went to get the bridge work started )

This is what happens. The underside of the bridge (facing the gum) is manufactured to match the prepared abutment teeth very closely (I don't know if they leave a little room for cement).

I don't remember how long the permanent took to manufacture, but I cracked the temporary once (they glued it back together) and had it come loose during a cleaning (serious cold sensitivity).

Most insurance will pay zero for implants, but they do usually cover the crowns that are attached. If it is at all possible (short of going into debt), I would recommend implants over bridges. Bridges take 2 perfectly healthy teeth and greatly increase their chances of future difficulties through increased biting force and potential decay at tooth/bridge interface.

why can't you get implants?

you'll leave with a temporary bridge and come back in a couple of weeks to get the permanent one placed. reason being the permanent one is made in a lab from the impressions they take on your teeth.
