My bf and I are thinking of relocating to Oregon. Right now we're looking at the Eugene area and could use some advice. How's the economy? Is there any work in the IT field available or would I be wasting my time??

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Lisa

IT market in Oregon is rough. Oregon has one of the highest (if not THE highest) unemployment rates in the nation.

Yep, my son, with a BS in CS just spent 3 weeks looking for a interview in the Willamette Valley, no luck. His wife, a CPA, was here a week, had 3 interviews lined up when she stepped of the plane, lined up 2 more after she got here, 5 interviews in 5 days, not bad. Looks like there are jobs in accounting.

California is really getting hit pretty hard right now. Real Estate here makes it near impossible to live in the state. Besides, the job market is failing all across the country. So you might very likely run into the same situation many times.

Well, the bright side is that I'm in New Orleans right now which has no IT market what so ever. Anywhere I go has to be better. The bf's only insisting that we move to the west coast, I get to choose the location. Any suggestions?

I would also check out Seattle but you're pretty much limited to Portland, Seattle and CA.

Oregon is nice but our economy is the worst.

Native Oregonian here. ;)

Yeah.. The job market here really sucks.... But I wouldn't let that discourage you, maybe you can line something up before you move.

Why Eugene, anyway? Seems like Portland would hold the jobs. Seattle is another good option.. Pretty much like Portland, only more extreme. ;)
