It sucks when it snows and you have to drive 30 mph across the entire thing going back to school.

Yep it's not exactly known for it's warm weather! :p But it's not as bad as some people think, I've heard the 6+ months of winter more than once and that ain't true. Maybe just people joking around.

Anyways, we can definately have some hot days during the summer and into August. I like the weather. There's four distinct seasons and you can do summer activities and winter activities; during the fall the colored leaves are beautiful.

Mackinac Island is pretty cool although I've only been there once or maybe twice when I was younger. We biked around part of the island and went into all the shops and of course had some of their famous chocolate. I would like to visit there again soon.

I go to the U.P. every now and then. Michigan Tech on the Kewanee pennisula has a really nice Rock museum. There a bunch of really scenic state parks. Check out the http://travel.michigan.org/ website, it's really a great guide to michigan and the communities.

I would say winter is 6 months there. The first snow is usually in Oct and doesnt let up until late april, early may. :disgust:

Not the last few years, just this past winter I wasn't even sure if we'd have any snow for Christmas and it was definately gone by mid April. Although my mom has pictures when she was a kid, the snow banks were so high you couldn't see over them. Like 6-7 feet.

Now that I think about it, it depends on where you are in Upper Mich. In the Keweenaw peninsula they get a ton of snow, where I live in lower central Upper Peninsula on Lake Michigan we barely get any. The local ski hill could barely run this year cause there was no snow. :Q

I used to visit Iron Mountain / Kingsford every single summer for like 5 years in a row. I love it there, I'd retire if the races were a bit more diverse. Regardless, it's very quiet and clean and the skies are clear. Everything kicks butt, except maybe the winters. I have never been there in the winter.

I lived in Marquette for 5 years while going to Northern Michigan Univ.

My uncle has a place on a lake in Curtis, MI which is smack dab in the middle of the UP.

My sister lives in Iron Mountain.

I was near there this past april and we had 6 inches of snow fall that day plus an inch of ice. Fun times
