I am currently senior with one easy semester left here at Rolla, Mo (UMR). When I was in high school I knew I wanted to be an engineer, and looked at all the colleges. In the end, I chose UMR since I am from MO and couldn't seem to get enough scholarships ( I was unaware of or whether I qualified for loans at the time).
My question are
"Is MIT a good place?"
"How does the city/townies/cops treat you?"
"How does the faculty treat you (not like the Mechanical Department, but the smaller ones like registar, financial aid office, career oppurtunities center, housing/dorms departments?'
"How is the dorm life?" (I am leaning more towards do the RAs treat you like kids and write you up every chance they get)
The reason I am asking is solely on whether or not I made the right decision. As of right now, I CANNOT STAND THIS ****** SCHOOL.
Going to the financial aid office is like pulling teeth trying to get someone to help you.
The registar office took two years to change my student status, and trying to get someone to help transfer over classes ...puleeessse (Calc 1 and 3 transferred over just fine, but Calc 2 didn't )
The dorm people are ANAL (we got lucky and got a laid-back RA for the ONE-year I spent there, and it just wasn't worth the cost)
I have had 2 bikes stolen since my being here. I just got a ticket on a Sunday night at 1:30 in the morning (Mon morn technically)
I parked in an loading/unloading zone to drop off my gf and a big box of t-shirts and was yelled by the cleaning lady not to park there for more than five minutes before she'd call the call cops "just thought I warn ya", what a b****)
I have so many other stories of annoying workers and other crap, it's not even funny anymore. I just hate this school.
Just thought I would rant and see whether MIT was any better and if I made the right choice...
However, the Engineering departments have been good to me. You'll always have a few a**hat profs, but most of them here great and helpful. M.E. and A.E department for me.
