Im about to take a job in El Segundo by LAX. Im curious how bad is that traffic/commute in the morning going southbound from Santa Clarita/San fernando valley, and back. My hours would likely be 6:30 or 7 to 4/4:30?

Is it bumper to bumper every morning and afternoon? or only when there are accidents?

You could look up google maps and hit the traffic button around the times you want to know.

If it's red or a red dotted line it'll be bumper to bumper most likely.

The times you'll be on it there will be tons of traffic. There's always traffic no matter what especially the time you'll be going home. Traffic picks up more at 7am everywhere and slows down around 9-9:30am and picks up again around 4pm until 7:30pm. Accidents only make it worse.

1hr from SFV almost 2 hours from Santa clarita. Massive, massive traffic by Howard Hughes parkway.

Move closer.

Traffic will be hell during those hours. I'd try to find a place to live closer to work. Somewhere in the South Bay would be a good place to start.

I used to live in Torrance and commute to Santa Monica everyday. Took me about 40 minutes, and that was back in the mid 90s. El Segundo would have been half that and I wouldn't even have to get on the freeway.

Check this site around 4PM today and you'll see what I mean.

That will not capture the scary abrupt complete stops that only seem to occur just as clear the few hills or over passes.

If you can avoid the 405 ... do it. Move closer. Take another job.

heh-heh...I made the mistake of taking the "San Diego freeway" on my way to San Diego many years ago...during the afternoon.

The trip that took about an hour going straight down I-5 (the 5) took about 3 hours.
Fuck that...never made that mistake again.

All those places have gone in the gutter. If you're looking for cheap sure go there but I would never want to live in those places.

gotta know where to look (aka where all the japanese people are)

besides, under ~1400 there's only so many options.

ahahahaha yea usually the areas where the Asians are, they're going to be nicer but I'd rather live around Hermosa or Redondo. Sure it's way more expensive there but it's worth it.

I lived in Hermosa Beach. Love that area but it is expensive.

Torrance isn't bad, you just have to know where to look. Pretty much anywhere south of 190th (more specifically west of the train tracks) and west of Crenshaw is going to be decent. Stay away from the refinery and don't live anywhere east of the refinery...hell, I wouldn't live anywhere east of Crenshaw...maybe parts of old Torrance but that's it.

It'd be horrendous anyway you go.

You can try Culver City, in the nicer parts. Palms isn't horrible horrible but you'd be on the 405 to get to work. Sepulveda is always an alternate to the 405 if they finished all the roadwork.

The 405 I swear is one of the worst freeways I've ever been on. For two months I went from West LA to Rolling Hills Estates. I wanted to take out every car in front of me on some days.

if you want to live north of LAX you can take La Cienega to work and avoid the 405 entirely.

metrolink is your friend. that, or amtrak if your work gives travel compensation. in the end, it will still take you 45 minutes, but at least it is a consistent 45.

if you're willing to work south of LAX, places are usually cheaper and nicer, not to mention you'll be driving against traffic, which is always nice...

no such line exists SFV -> LAX

he'd have to take metro -> union -> blue line -> green line (or something to that effect)

he could take the van nuys flyaway shuttle I suppose....:D

I worked in El Segundo a few years ago, but that was right after college and I rented a room in a town house with the owner (in Redondo Beach). Just the sheer amount of people commuting to/from that area makes traffic suck, both on and off the freeways. My commute (all surface streets) of 5 miles would sometimes take upwards of 20 minutes.

that's not even brag worthy.

i had a 2mi commute into/out of DTLA that sometimes took 30+ mins

accident on 101 = DTLA on lockdown
