I just spend the 3 months after Hurricane Katrina in Austin. I loved it. Unfortunately, my company said it was time to go back to New Orleans, so I am back home in this mess of a city. I was staying up north by Parmer/Mopac and paid $900 for a pretty big 2 bedroom.

ummm, just stay west of 35 and you should be mostly ok. though there are also some poorer areas further south in austin too. UT is awesome, but if you want some peace i wouldnt live very close to campus 🙂
