Only thing I would'nt like about living there is bugs.. I hate bugs the south has. But great fishing, hunting and very freindly people. (if you're white😛 j/k)

Plus.....Southern Chicks rock.

huntsville is nice and has more "outsiders" (non-southerns) due to the space center

you don't need to be scared of southerns, they are nice. i married one

Huntsville isn't that bad for humidity or bugs...then again I'm comparing it to Auburn.

Um so what again is wrong with being conservative?

Expect order and good manners. I'm not a conservative but true Southerners are very kind and humble. Its those Northerners that keep moving here that are messing things up.

You will like it down there in Alabama.

It's not like the rest of Alabama.

Definitely more conservatives, but not the rural right wing nuts.

Cost of living here is dirt cheap. 300k will buy you a 4 bedroom house with 2 car garage, 1/2 acre land. That would cost you like 1+ million in the north.

Nothing wrong.. just not my scene.

Plus the fact that the 4-5 times I've been to the south I was treated poorly because I was 'from da north' and I 'talked too fast' and 'talked funny' doesn't seem very inviting 😛

Funny. That was my experience as well....only it happened when I moved from the south up to the north.

LOL, I have friends that still call me a carpetbagger. 🙂

I hope I've not offended anyone.. certainly not my intention, I just want to make sure I'm not going to stick out like a sore thumb there.

Some more info:

Commuting is fast. It takes me 15 minutes to work and back.

Not everyone has a southern accent. Well, depends on where you are. I'm an engineer and I hear all sorts of accents. Strong southern accents are not the dominant ones. Most people speak the general american accent but with a few southern influences. Some have no trace of a southern accent.

You shouldn't stick out. I moved from Ohio to Auburn and I was fine. 😉

What part of Ohio?

Hmm downtown huntsville is like a sqaure you would find in any small town. I worked in Huntsville for a year. Decent town, lots of good paying government contract jobs. But for night life... hmmm. Well there is Univeristy of Alabama Huntsville so there must be parties, but more than likely that is a school that emties out of friday night when all the students drive home.

For whatever reason I just found this post, I know it's old but did the OP decide on Hville? I have lived here all my life (35 years) and I love it.

I don't care if it's a techie place, that's what I am after all.

LOL they haven't heard you when you're drunk.

Don't lie to us Drew ... you super spicy baja baller!
